Having a really hard time making gold. Seems like everything is selling for 1-2k on my server cant really farm medallions cause they sell for nothing as well. What do we need to do to make money now.

Cata raids, even with low ilvl - got an alliance to 100 some days ago and have mostly done pvp - today I ran firelands25 (nonHC) because of my gear, and still got decent amount of gold - think it was around 1000g after selling items to vendor. Toke me 15 min or so, quite fast
Old raids\missions\bags are going to be the most consistent, the upgrade market is going to significantly decrease as soon as 6.2.3 drops since crafted gear does not appear to be valor upgradable, so Felblight\Savage Blood\Sorcerous elements will all drop precipitously in price, the elements slightly less so due to other uses.
Cata Raids bring you 8-10k per toon per week. Your garrisons can bring you double that (along with professions and all) a week. While Cata raids are a good start up, you can easily get to the point where it's not worth your time, atleast for the foreseeable future.

Nowadays, it is tougher to get gold than the beginning of WoD. I've made a lot of gold this expansion (about 3.4 mil mostly over 3 alts), still doing some of the same things, but with often with lower gold income. The vast majority (92%+) comes from auctions. Nowadays, I'm more about income that I spend very little time on.
- Barn, bloods sell for about 100g per on my server. You can get quite a bit of this between primal spirits and barn with follower.
(I have no clue how much gold I make off selling the furs, but it's been a year of selling furs, I think it's quite a bit of gold.)
- Felblight, weekly runs on Kazzak, also about 100g per on my server.
- Upgrades/crafting - I find the 640-685 upgrades sell quite easily. Make an excel spreadsheet to calculate the highest return per timed mat (e.g. truesteel or burnished leather).
- Call to Arms (I only do this sometimes) - about 500g per heroic dungeon, this is really quick especially if you are a geared tank, by geared, i mean you have baleful gear.
- Garrison missions + treasure hunting - not as lucrative as before, still good for passive income. I have no clue what I make from this, never kept track
- Garrison gather and resources - gathering is pretty easy in garrison, gather and auction off your stuff, it's not much gold, but it adds up. I usually have inn and barn. But when my GR stacks up, I'll swap into a trading post and trade off for draenic dust and AH this. Try to get the 4 GR per dust, 5 at worst.
(you want followers with treasure hunting or scavenging, reroll or recruit these)
- Old raids - this is okay, decent returns. Seems to take me a while to clear everything so I don't do this. Also, you get weekly rare missions with good drops, can be valuable to sell.
- (not worth anymore, but server dependent) Fishing/cooking - for a while fish flesh prices on my server spiked to around 15g per flesh, I spent a lot of time fishing, I think I estimated the peak at 15k per hour. Plus I can get my nat pagle rep/coins going. I think you're more looking 2-3K per hour now.
- Sell heroic runs, I've done this twice, 100k total. Great gold per hour, don't have many opportunities to do this. I'd imagine with the coming of the moose drop, this'll be a thing.
- Playing the AH - I've done this only a few times, I don't like it. Putting down gold makes me nervous, but the returns can be good. A guildie of mine makes a lot of gold doing this.
Other things you can do, asmongold has a bunch of videos on how to make gold. Watch those, see which ones are still useful.
A personal preference, I rarely buy things off AH (nowadays, mostly ores when I start running out). With my alts, I'm pretty self sufficient in terms of getting enchants or gems. I don't buy better gear. There's rarely pieces of BoE raid gear that I buy. I pretty much sell everything I can. Though I have hoarded mats.

You are everything, I never knew, I always wanted.
Kazzak was an amazing source of income for the first few weeks. Having7 toons at the time made an hours worth of work into a hefty payday every weekend (higher price for Fel blight than Tuesday-Thursday)

Here are the ways i make money and most other people do
Run Cata Raids and Vendor everything
Run garrison missions on all your alts with treasure hunter followers
Buy Mats with Garrison resources and sell those on AH or use them to make items and sell those
Farm felblight and see that
Sell pets on AH
pet trading from server to server. some servers has pets at really high prices. They are bound account learn em, then log into new server cage. *wait then Profit. and moving that gold is just doing the reverse buy pet at same value or more sell it again on the server you want the gold. 2-3 relogs and you got money but you hav to keep track of pets and server prices i wish there was a site for it ;-)
Anything up to 15 Felblight from Kazzak IIRC. So 10 is actually above average
I run it on my 3 chars because it's 5 mins work for some gold.
Do a /roll 100k with guildies :P

The barn still make money for me, I have 4 characters (at 100) and their herbs (turned into pots) give me a cool 500g a day. Follower missions give about 3000 a day (for me) and 2 Barns give 1000 a day. Which adds up to 31500G each week for 4 hours of effort. Then there is the weekly Kazzak Farm, Material Farming (Ores and Herbs), AH manipulation, Crafting proffesions etc. None of these methods are particularly fun, but logging in 25 min each day + an additional hour to farm for barn each week is not a big hassle to start gathering funds for the next expansion.
Maybe still relevant (point number 3.) :

Hexweave bags are rather profitable. They sell for 1.5k-2k on my server, and a single tailor takes about two days to get enough Hexweave if they use work orders and their daily cooldown. Get fur from a trading post, and sorcerous earth can be bought with Primal Spirits, or generated by blacksmith/JC/Inscription/LW work orders. They're usually cheap on the AH too if you have to get them there. This averages out at 6k per week per tailor.
Not the best way to make cash in terms of gold per week, but it's consistent, and takes about five minutes of work per day (per tailor) so it can easily be tacked on whatever else you're doing.
Crafted gear is gonna be worthwhile for a long time with the upgrades taking the gear to 725
