    YouTube Red

For years, YouTube’s fans have been telling us they want more—more choice when watching their favorite content, more ways to support their favorite creators and, above all, the option to watch their favorite videos uninterrupted.

On October 28, we’re giving fans exactly what they want. Introducing YouTube Red -- a new membership designed to provide you with the ultimate YouTube experience.

YouTube Red lets you enjoy videos across all of YouTube without ads, while also letting you save videos to watch offline on your phone or tablet and play videos in the background, all for $9.99 a month. Your membership extends across devices and anywhere you sign into YouTube, including our recently launched Gaming app and a brand new YouTube Music app we’re announcing today that will be available soon.

YouTube Music is designed to make discovering, watching and listening to music easier than ever. Any song or artist you choose on YouTube Music will start you on a personal journey through one of the richest music catalogs; just sign in, tap a track you love, and see where your music takes you. And as a special bonus - YouTube Red works with Google Play Music, so subscribe to one and automatically get access to the other.

And starting early next year, YouTube Red will get even better with member-only access to new, original shows and movies from some of YouTube’s biggest creators. You can read all about Originals coming to YouTube Red here.

We’re working to bring YouTube Red and our YouTube Music, Gaming and Kids apps to more countries soon. And don’t worry! The free, ad-supported version of YouTube we all know and love isn’t going anywhere. You’ll still be able to enjoy YouTube, along with the YouTube Kids, Gaming and Music apps free of charge. But with YouTube Red, you’ll be able to support the people who make your favorite videos while watching what you want, when you want, on any device you want, uninterrupted.

Viewers in the U.S. can try YouTube Red for free with a one month trial on October 28 and YouTube Music will be coming soon.

Who is gonna get it? I am, its a great way to support the creators of content I watch.

MOD WARNING: Yes, we get the joke with a similarly named porn site. PLEASE don't link to it though, even in jest. That's not the type of content we want to see on this site.

I read the thread title and the first thing I thought of was Red Tube.

I know for a fact I won't be the only one.

I can't wait to be put behind a paywall to watch some of my favorite shows - like GMM - when they decide to do member-only shit for $$$.

They mustn't have heard of Adblock... the only nice thing about this is that you get Redtube YouTube Red for free with Google Music.

When someone first mentioned to me that youtube had a paid service I was hoping it would be a TV /movie streaming service. But nope. "We've put together a bunch of features that if you look hard enough you can find free apps for. Please give us money."

well technically that's illegal to do as of right now. people uploading those shows right now without permission are currently violating multiple copyrights. what do you think those copyright messages you constantly see are for?

While there is some entertaining content, $10/mo is higher than any other service right now other than HBO and Showtime. Since Youtube is not producing anything nearly as substantive as the alternatives, I'm certainly not going to pay that much just to get rid of commercials and add a few features that I have zero interest in.

nothing's stopping them from doing what hulu did and blocking youtube for those who use adblock.

They were talking about this on the radio this morning and I feel like this is marketed at older people because none of the casters on the morning show I listen to knew that AdBlock was a thing and is free. Now I know people have conflicting opinions on it but unless that app is illegal or whatever people are going to use it IF they don't want ads.

That said. I do really like the idea that they are paying creators some of the dividends. Still think the price is too steep for what it offers. If they get all the other stuff up and running and it is actually good then maybe but 10 bucks is a joke for no ads. Also yeah....YouTube Red is a horrible name. The lady on the radio kept saying Redtube and I know that somewhere someone is going to end up searching for porn on accident.

Oops sorry I meant Youtube shows. Good Mythical Morning (GMM) is a Youtube channel that uploads their episodes weekly. I'm sure a lot of channels, like this one, will opt for being member-only. I just hope I'm wrong.

I'm really confused as to why on earth anyone would pay for this?

That is kinda apples and oranges though. Not to take away from Hulu but YouTube is infinitely larger and more popular than Hulu. If they just all the sudden blocked people for using ad blockers they would piss a lot of people off. Sure you could just turn it off but people like to get worked up over the principle of things.

    You were not.

Meh... The stuff I can find, for free, and the ads I can block, for free, lead me to cancel netflix and never start paying for hulu, hbo, prime, etc... There just isn't anything they can offer that I would consider worth paying extra for.

Damn my curiosity. I just googled "redtube". Time to purge the history on my work computer and hope it wasn't my turn to be monitored today

Most probably because Youtube will look to get as many content creators on board as possible so they place their content behind a paywall, therefore forcing people to pay or not have access to that content.

If youtube wants to start blocking folks then that's fine. That traffic will just go elsewhere.
