Our current mess kit was designed in 1937, hard to improve on something so simple.

Thought you were referring to the K-7
Unsurprisingly it crashed during one of it's test flights, the designer was executed during Stalin's purges IIRC.
But my kit was actually from the 40's, not only a model designed back then. It was 60 years old... it had seen many lunches.
My rifle (M62) was from early 90's, but some guys had a rifle from the 60's.
Also, a guy from my unit had boxers from the early 80's. Those things had seen some balls.
Considering the amount of soldiers and the age of those boxers...
If they are washed weekly and given to a new soldier (which is most likely, it would be like winning in the lottery that they'd end up on the same guy again) every week, that's 52 pairs of balls per year. That for 30 years.... 1560 pairs of balls!

How do they handle underwear in the British army?
Chanel ski's? Whaaat?! I bet they are golden plated.
When it's winter, we ski. Snow is optional. True story.

How is that so shocking to you? I, or anyone, had zero issues or even a thought about having a problem with recycled underwear. Of course we made jokes about how many balls these have seen, but it was just joking.
