    Do you support Black Friday?

I do. I love the sales and I think the chaos at the stores are the companies' faults. They should have better coordination when giving out items on such a day when they expect stuff like this. They could have a line and have extra security installed so fights won't break out.

Here are some videos of the most recent chaos of result of little to no security.

No thanks. I don't see the point in nearly getting mauled by some asshole just to save a few bucks. Why risk major medical bills to save a few dollars on a TV or other items? It doesn't make sense.

However, videos of the chaos are always fun to watch. We really aren't that different than wild animals at the end of the day.

Yes, good online deals are a great thing, especially focused on one day so it's easier to spot stuff.

No I don't, I barely shop as it is having worked as a retail salesman for so long the last thing I want to do is shop on my off time. You'll find that anyone who works at the store level or sells products into stores is basically fed up and done with holidays and major event sales very quickly after they start. There's an overload of emotional stress that approaches psychic trauma levels and it really sours the whole shopping experience as a whole.

Any shopping on my part not done online is emergency or grocery shopping only, in and out and home quickly.

I bought a lot things online this morning/afternoon under the supposed "black Friday" tagline. So yes, sorta?

The third video begins with a fight in what looks like an Asda, afaik, they were warned this year to beef up security or call off Black Friday sales. As I'm from the UK/Ireland but I mostly stray from all current trends/news stories, Black Friday is relatively new to me taking place over here and I thought it was just an American tradition that had migrated to the Internet based retail outlets. My assumption was based on the growing trend in online sales and many companies being American or American owned but I guess I'm wrong. I enjoy it, if something I want pops up online I snag it earlier than I might have if its on sale, I don't impulse shop and do most of my non-food/grocery shopping online these days so I avoid all the fuss.

Slightly anecdotal but, I once worked for major supermarket in London and at christmas time there was a special on frozen turkeys. The store was down to it's last one and while going about my business I happened to observe to two women going hell for leather, beating the crap out of each other for that 1 reduced price turkey. I was cleaning up pulled out hair and knocked over stock for about an hour after. Still laugh about it to this day.

No. The deals are not that good and more importantly it is -highly- exploitative of retail workers.

This seems more an American issue

Most people here use online Black Friday or Black Week now

A lot of Black Friday 'deals' are trickery and fake discounts..I was gonna place a order with La Senza until i saw they did the old sales trick where they inflate prices to ridiculous base values and claim your getting '40% off' when in fact your still paying full price. Before the sale items i was looking at were $4.50 and once the sale started the price was jacked too $7.50 baseline -40% is still $4.50...Wow the savings!!! With certain items you were actually paying more with this supposed 'sale'.

Just makes me sick and some people aren't wise enough and fall for these scam sales.

One of the better South Park episodes. Black friday, floppy wieners, Red Robin Wedding. Bill Gates killing the Sony president. Really good episode.

God I love black friday videos they are one of the few news stories I can laugh at without feeling bad about just moronic people fighting for deals and my amusement.

I don't mind it. I work at a Walmart and I worked last night from 3PM to 12AM when they started the Black Friday sales early and I work tonight at the same hours. Despite the videos posted and the stigma of all Walmarts being cesspits, everyone was relatively well behaved, only a few people tried to steal games and only one child was lost during the five hours the 'gates' were open. We had an event security crew at all of the doors and near many of the more busy places to keep the order. Other than feeling sick to my stomach all day and suffering a horrible headache(stress from the large crowds) the day was just fine and with most of our inventory gone today will be even easier.

Been to a couple of black Friday sales around town and I have never seen people behave like animals like in those videos.

Security is tight and they close off aisles and have you get in line to ask the sales person what you want.

Black Friday is a gimmick shopping holiday. What you don't realize is that throughout the year stores mark up items on their shelves so they make a profit over the cost of the actual item from the warehouse. What happens here is that the stores, for a set period of time, open their doors and sell, usually items that do/did poorly throughout the year and those that are popular and know will sell well for as close to warehouse price as they can get away with to still make a profit.

While that is one tactic behind it, to sell popular and less than popular items. With the popular ones they tend to actually INCREASE the price before the sales so that when the sale actually happens that those who saw those higher prices will go and buy them up. In reality, the stores tricked you into buying the sale item for normal price, making it feel like a steal for you, but their the ones really stealing.

There is a strict marketing research and plan that goes into Black Friday, along with Cyber Monday, or any sale for that matter. You're not buying something for 75% warehouse price, you're buying it for 75% lower than the mark up price, which is much different. The only way you're hurting the store is when you come with coupons that take off even more percentages on top of the current sale value.

But to those who enjoy BF or CM, enjoy it. Don't worry about whether you actually made a good deal or not, you'll know when you have. It takes as much planning on the customer to make out like a bandit as it does the store themselves. So if you enjoy all of the chaos and hectic times more power to you =D
