Pokemon Go: Thoughts?

So I used the search function and found a few threads regarding this game, though they are a bit old now and haven't had any recent discussion so I thought making a new thread would be a good idea. If not, please close this mods.

Anyway, I've been very excited for Pokemon Go! I'm hoping it lives up to my expectations and I wanted to know everyone else's thoughts on it. Personally, I plan to go to my local pond and become that ONE fisherman in every game.

Fisherman Lazy and his 6 magikarp want to fight!

Anyone else have funny ideas, or thoughts about the game?

I feel like it's not going to be able to live up to the (frankly unrealistic) expectations that people already have for it.

I don't expect it to look super realistic or anything like that. I like the idea of pokemon being region locked which should make getting every pokemon an achievement, rather than just having a few copies of the game and turning it into a matter of time and tedious work.

I also think it will become easier for me to become immersed in the games, being able to relate things to real places. I think that's what the big draw for the game is for me.

Even if those fail to deliver the way I want them to, it is pretty hard to screw up pokemon. It's pokemon lol.

Looking forward to it, but I honestly don't know what to expect outside of the little videos I've seen. I hope it's good though because I wouldn't mind something else to do when I'm out walking my dog. :P

Was just doing a little digging, kinda sad it seems we might not even see this until after July even... I was pretty sure they said it was supposed to be out in the first quarter of 2016 too.

Should be interesting but not sure how the AR will work. I feel like it may just be awkward. Will definitely give it a try when it comes out though.

I remember when me and my friend when on a night out with our PokePedometers for Heart Gold / Soul Silver (for a dare)

If it's just awkward that's okay I think since AR games in general are still very new.

Mario N64 was super awkward for camera controls, and that all eventually got sorted out. I guess all I'm hoping for is the paid services aren't excessive / hopefully they are completely optional.

Honestly can't wait though, like you said, it's Pokemon, how could it possibly get screwed up (Other than the possible microtransactions).

It's almost as bad as those bug catchers that would insist their Caterpies, Weedles, Metapods, and Kakunas were the best, but at least those were caught by themselves.

If the AR works like Poke Radar, it may be kinda awkward. If it's a free app, I may try it out to see if my phone can run it properly befor passing judgements and thoughts.

My friends from work and I are really looking forward to it, however I have really low expectations from what I've seen.
I don't think it will come anywhere close to the hype honestly.
It's probably going to be more of a location-based Neko Atsume than a proper Pokemon game.

Wondering what pokemon will be available tbh.... the 1st 150. Kanto only in otherwords.....would be cool if all 700 or so where arund but that might be too much

I'm hoping they get to adding them honestly. Could be future updates for the game?

Charmander has always been my favorite, with Cyndaquil being a very close second. Though I like all of the starters, they are all pretty adorable.

Besides you mudkip. I do not like mudkips.

a lot of people are seeing this as "omg! pokemon in the real world!" while in reality it's not. It's just an app.
They showed a very teensy little bit of actual gameplay at the end of the original announcement trailer I think and many people didn't seemed to like what they saw. Then again that was some time ago and I haven't looked into it at all after that.
Still, I feel like people are putting their expectations way too high.

As far as micro transactions I believe they said only for better Pokeballs. If that's the only fee and the catch rate for normal ones isn't terrible I'd probably keep it on hand to kill time, but it will be interesting to see how it goes in the long run.

And for the release, I saw July in one of the articles I was reading because it mentioned them wanting to show it off at E3 2016, so it's simply hearsay. Others say they're showing it off in March to attendees of Niantec so maybe we'll be lucky enough to see it in April!!
