By first making sure you can grow them in your area. Check your plant hardiness zone, 8b (perhaps 8a if you manage it well) and higher and you can find a variety that can be left outdoors. If you are below 8, consider a dwarf variety that you grow in a 5 gallon bucket and bring inside half a year. We have 3 blood orange trees that we have done like that and they are in their 3rd year and doing quite well. We grew ours from seeds from the grocery store so we don't know if it will be dwarf or even if it will produce tasty fruit (most fruit trees sold are grafts and do not necessarily produce true to seed) but we are excited to find out.

Gotta say, +1 for the dwarf varieties. Even better if you get something with multiple varieties grafted together for longer production. If you want to go all out spend a few hundred dollars on a second hand rough terrain pallet jack and some UV stabilized plastic pallets. You can then bring your fruiting trees closer to the house at different times in the season and more importantly, move somewhere else when they're inconvenient

Carefull with those.
Bought a Lime tree for ~100$ with a dozen limes on it. Gave it plenty of water and light. Noticed leaves around it after 2 - 3 months, gently fondled the plant and half the leaves came of. Tried fertilizer, but the tree was pretty much dead at that point. The limes was still fresh and tasty even when all the leaves was gone.

How does one get a lemon tree?

First you need to get some mirrors, sage, a pigeon, a goat, a sacrificial knife, some chalk, a rock bowl, and a virgin. That should cover all your needs.

The first thing you need to do is draw a pentagram so you can summon your desired demon. The design may vary based on this.

Next take the sacrificial knife and goat and decapitate it inside of the pentagram. Keep some of the blood in the bowl. Do the same with the pigeon.

Light up the sage. At this point you should be naked.

Place the mirrors upside down in the corners of the pentagram.

Now a demon should show up so you can wish for a nice lemon tree.

Release the virgin as it's most likely one of our fellow mmo champ posters.
