TB's a great guy. Fuck all the noise about shit he's done/said in the past. Just watch some of the podcasts/videos he does with his friends. He's a normal guy, and he seems to be a good friend as well. He's been a very influential person in the gaming community and a lot of people don't like him but he makes a lot of valid points most of the time and he really cares about the games that he plays.

Firstly, the video (which I'm guessing about 10% of you watched) doesn't say we should just end criticism. He just wants to move away from clickbait-y stuff like the Tracer butt pose articles which popped up on places like Kotaku.


Secondly, all of TB's rants are generally about specific functionality of a game, and what he considers are acceptable standards in a PC video game. You may not agree with those standards, and he's generally pretty fair about saying "you may find this fair enough." When he doesn't like a game's mechanics, he acknowledges that not all games are "for him" and one of the downsides of working by himself is that he reviews what he reviews, and there's no "RTS guy" to review SC2, and now 4X guy to review Civ V, etc.

And then he rants about perfectly broken shit, like the latest Arkham shit, and the problems with the launch of Street Fighter V, and Gary's Incident (was that it?) On some of these things, I disagree fundamentally with him: for example, I don't believe it makes sense for a developer to have enough servers to accommodate a launch night surge when they know their average monthly server load is going to be much, much lower. I don't think TB would call me a twit for saying that, because I can argue like a rational human being, but most of the internet isn't that.

That's fair enough, but it seemed like Bill was on about people giving him shit. He got it mixed up thinking it was cos of Crendor instead of the comments, but TB was very upset that people criticised his fridge lol. I like his content sometimes, but he's always been a rather petty individual; relatively minor criticisms can really set him off, and he gets aggressive over dumb stuff too. Many people would say that their moral requirements for a game are much more important to them than those about how it runs or what is available in an options menu, but TB is essentially dismissing their concerns as "bullshit" which they should just ignore and have fun while fully intending to continue with his own brand of fairly trivial pedantry instead of ignoring it and having fun.

This is simply just not true, these people always had their little indie games cliques, it wasn't until indie games became more prominent that they got a voice to spew their insane narratives, often through the use of media. Gamergate is largely a consumer revolt to that, the shitty journalism creating narratived that trash on gamers as a whole, while pushing for censorship in "problematic" games and the incestous relationship between these people. Zoe Quinn was simply the catalyst, or the straw that broke the camel's back. We're at the point where som japanese developers refuse to release games kn the west because of these people, or companies that pre-emptively censor their own games because of how these people behave.

Why do people comment on a thread literally with the video in the post if they clearly haven't watched it?

He's talking about ignoring the people who are posting clickbait for outrage views. People who deliberately lie or so stretch the truth that there's no difference. People who go around destroying the industry with the "goal" of "Equality."

i dont think tb is talking about real moral issues as tb has talked plenty of times about how better representation for minorities and females ect ect is very important for the games industry and how the industry needs and is expanding to fit any and every demographic (he even mentions this a bit in the video about how this is the golden age of gaming, where more people than ever are being serviced and catered to)

hes specifically talking about the exploitative, fake narrative, clickbait, manipulating bullshit that alot of sites are famous for.
