Trump University was basically a self-help course that taught you how to employ proper sales tactics and reach customers emotionally. This is what you're supposed to do if you want to be good at sales. Read the famous book "How to make friends and influence people" and you'll see very similar advice on getting the best of people in dealing and interactions.

Going to any self-help course, you'll get people who find it life-changing and others who think it's bullshit. In this case the people who think it's bullshit are butthurt they spent thousands of dollars and weren't automatically made rich from it.

I worked in retail for a healthcare provider and they taught many of the same principles in sales. Yes, it's kind of slimy to play on a person's heartstrings trying to get them to buy more than they probably should, but it's nothing out of the ordinary. They would tell you don't get an obese client to focus on exercising and sessions to lose 20lbs, get them to focus on not dying of a heart attack like their father did and they'll buy more. Emotional investment = sales.

My impression is that this is not an accurate framing of Clinton's time as SoS. Unless the NYT has drastically reframed reality in their portrayal of Clinton's roll in American policy in Libya, Obama seemed quite keen on listening to and taking Clinton's advice on foreign policy.

So apparently today it was released that Greg Abbott, governor of Texas, dropped their investigation into Trump University in 2010 after Trump ended the Trump University organization in Texas. Then Trump quietly bribed him for $35,000 to Abbott's gubernatorial campaign for Texas Governor.
