    Just get a good I7 CPU with a 2way SLI 1080?
water cooled all that and get 32gigs of ram.

why spend 5K when halve that is enough for a beast of a PC?

of course you can make something more pleasing to the eyes with custom cables and what not but theirs the question.
you want 5K performance or something that's 99% better then most but looking sweet?

I'm looking for performance. I'm not into what the case looks like. I do want liquid cooled and a decent array of fans for cooling.

Performance wise, depending on what you are doing(I am speaking of playing games mostly, no other heavy tasks like video editing), there is not going to be much of a performance difference between a $1500 system and a $5000 system.

If you want more help, please tell us what you will be using the system for? Gaming only, video editing, work related stuff?

The first one actually goes quite a bit over budget since the Video Card price is not included. Second one is more realistic, but I say again, if this is just for gaming, you could shave quite a bit off that easily and have pretty much the same gaming performance. Without knowing exactly what the system will be used for, I imagine that the i7 is likely wasted money. 2 500GB SSDs and a 5TB HDD is quite a bit of overkill and could easily go with a quarter of the RAM and not affect gaming performance in the least.

It is a nice build, just want to make sure the OP realizes he is likely paying for stuff he does not really need if he goes with either of these builds. If I could afford something like this, I would probably get it just to have it, but it is very wasteful.

5k to spend? get the base iMac... and you will have enough leftover for 1 or 2 burgers.

Hmm I missed the videocard not showing up in the price bit, I know it's silly, that's why I said at the start I went a bit nuts.

I think with DX 12 and having the budget an i7 6700k is a good CPU, (iirc the price came down now that availability is better) it should last a long time, 16 GB of memory is also fine imo, allows for lot's of multitasking and memory is cheap atm, I admit the storage options are a bit over the top and if you don't need/want a lot of space a 250 GB SSD and a 1tb drive can do fine, also on the mobo you can shave some money of, but this build was more fun to assemble then a more sensible one

ah, yes, on the RAM you are correct. I got the 2 builds mixed up and was looking a 4x16GB sticks, which is why I said 1/4 of that would be fine. 16GB is becoming the new standard.

As for DX12 making use of the i7, I am not sure that will make that huge of a difference. It sure doesn't in Rise of the Tomb Raider:
    http://www.pcgamer.com/benchmarked-r...tomb-raider/4/
The difference between the i7 and the i5 is almost not even there, then the difference from the i5 to the i3 is also pretty small. Not sure if the i7 is really worth it.

That's just one DX12 game though. If we look here:
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/30395...12-gaming.html

Yeah, in AotS, there is a difference, a whopping 15 FPS, by going from 4 cores to 4 cores with HT. In Gears of War however, there is no difference. I'm pretty sure the difference in AotS has little to do with DX12 and more to do with how the game itself makes use of HT.

Only managed to spend about 4000$. Case was just a random pick. Has watercooling stuff. Any comp in this price range that doesn't have 2 (or more monitors) is just nub edition. Extra 1k can be spent on additional GPU (if needed) and some misc crap.

The i7 is "you win some, you loose some" kind of deal atm, check this article out

Depends somewhat on what you play and game optimization to some extent.

had a think about what i'd make for myself with $5k if i was offered it for free right now.. if i had time i'd wait to see what amd throws out in the ways of a 490x

thinking more on it, given $5k i'd probably make myself a custom case in the shape of a cow (don't ask), go for a 120gb windows ssd, 500gb games/apps ssd, and then prob just a 500gb hdd because i don't have that much stuff really. *shrug* so much money..!

The thing about dumping that much in to a PC is that half of it is going in to branding and decals since you'll likely hit a wall of diminishing returns with far less money. Feels like more of a waste than anything.

That said, if I had 5K to spend on a computer which didn't come from a loan or whatever then I'd probably do the same so carry on.
A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbon.

2011-v3 build without throwing the money on Rampage V (black)? I am disappointed in you guys :P

Jokes aside, 5k seems wasteful to me too... only by getting 6950X you're basically throwing ~700$ in the trash.

With that much money... I would spend 1k€ on more monitors, like 3 auxiliar monitors (sides and top). Well, and with 10k€ we could build a 6 monitor setup going on 4k res and the rig to handle it. Hmmm sorry just feeding the troll.

spend 2.5k on the tower and buy some nice 1k monitors.

Any suggestion, which doesn't include a super fast SSD like one of the Samsung 950 Pro SSD M.2 2280 models, cannot to be taken seriously for a no limits build...

    I am disappoint.

Edit: Why are people suggesting sh!t consumer grade harddisks if the guy wishes to spend 5 grand?! Also, put in a hu-u-uge PSU rating, so the thing can cool itself without the fans running, cutting down on the noise.

Edit, part II: HGST Ultrastar 7K6000 SATA series.

There is no 2.5K Tower lol. Unless you are so retarded to call a PC a "Tower"
