Does anyone else agree Pokemon Go AR is the future of gaming?

I've been playing Pokemon Go and this Augmented Reality, I call it enhanced reality has so much potential, imagine going to a park and battling Onyxia and the group must have 2 Tanks and DPS and 2 healers with the APP ON and everyone must move and have roles and know a Strategy, and winning loot after defeating Onyxia. Imagine pairing the phone with GOOGLE glass and you can PVP someone in the park throwing Fire balls and launching ICE missiles. Yes people will have to move and be more athletic so is there anything wrong with that to pair gaming with physical Athleticism, Imagine a local park will look like Stormwind with GOOGLE glass on and you have to walk up to Virtually real Auctioneers and do professions! I think blizzard better take heed and get on this AR TECHNOLOGY because if they wont you bet 100 other gaming companies are already programming games like what I described.

A person in real life trying to play out the roll of a video game characters movements would be very limiting in what you could do with the concept if we are talking about any kind of action-based games. For example, I dont think augmented reality Bayonetta would go over very well.

I would imagine it would be more like laser-tag or a LARP with more fancy bells & whistles.

No, Pokemon is an IP that is good at taking advantage of AR but not many games out there are even remotely similar.

There are very few games that Niantic could have replaced Pokemon with for ____ Go.

You basically described LARPing in the OP and not sure how that is even remotely similar to Pokemon Go lmao...

Next step would be putting that into a pair of contact lens or glasses.

The Age of Cyborgs is not too far away.

I think it's a fad that will burn out as quickly as it came.

    MS Hololens already exists.

It's not very practical for games, hence the games division of MS abandoning it in favor of adapting 3rd party VR sets. The problems with VR gaming are like microscopic compared to the problems with AR gaming.

I think Pokemon Go is just a nice combination of AR and a good IP. Not knocking it, but it's no revolutionary by any means - AR has been around for a while. And games like this as well, but it was really the IP that made it what it is.

It came in a day, and has only grown exponentially since with no sign of losing steam.
Do you know what else people called a fad? The internet.
These aren't the spoilers you're looking for.

    Move along.

You are comparing a foolish mobile game to the internet?

If Pokemon Go is the future of games then I will not be playing games in the future.

I know all that, I just fail to see how it will have any longetivity. It's a pretty terrible 'game' in all honesty and will need some actual updates or people will get bored of it quickly. People are fickle.

Whenever something new comes to the scene there's always naysayers that say it will die quickly. This goes for every technology not just gaming. Pokemon GO right now is pretty simplistic. The creators will have a lot of money to expand it into something greater. and similar gaming companies will try to take a part of the market and hype that Pokemon GO created. It is an industry and won't suddenly die out. People enjoy the exploration it gives to their community instead of the boring walk in the park.

All they have to do is drag the rest of the handheld pokemon game into their AR game. We've been playing them since 1996 and its still going. They will dominate the handheld/mobile gaming market for years to come if they take this opportunity.

The future of gaming? Probably not. Another fun genre? Sure. I wouldn't even call VR "the future of gaming" - again, it'll be a good additional genre of gaming.

It's the pokemon IP more than the concept of AR that draws people to it, especially as it doesn't require people to drop 200 bucks on a 3ds in order to play.

The concept of ingress (also by Niantic) have been around for years, and it's nowhere near as popular as pokemon GO is at this moment.

It's pretty easy to hate on Pokemon GO, it seems (and is) a very simple game. A casual, dumbed down game for the masses. I normally really love complex games (X-series, Dwarf Fortress etc.) and shy away from 'casual' games, yet I adore Pokemon GO for what it sets out to achieve.

It's just that extra push to go out and take a walk instead of doing something inside. I was visiting my girlfriend this weekend again (we live in seperate countries). Normally we would play something coop or something like that, but this weekend we took a walk through the forest each night. Most of that time was spent on just talking, but once every 10 minutes or so we got a buzz and got to catch a Pokemon.

It just makes casual walks wherever a tiny bit more interesting. I'll never play it 'hardcore' though, but as a fun collecting game it's wonderful.

I mean... it's fascinating and all, but I can't really say Pokemon Go is much of a game. It's a gimmick like Tamagotchi or other fads like that. The idea behind it is pretty cool and that's what has captured people's imagination, but honestly the technology behind it isn't anything new or even that impressive. The whole AR thing where you catch a pokemon in the real world? C'mon, it's just a low res model super-imposed on your camera picture. It's not like you really find the pokemon around the place, the damn thing will appear wherever you point the camera.

I think Pokemon Go is just a marriage of two things that work perfectly together - the prevalence of mobile phones combined with the fact everyone has always dreamed of being a Pokemon trainer (and if you haven't, Pokemon still has that same charm that caught people's attention the first time around). Beyond that, I don't think this is going to go anywhere special, aside from seeing a whole bunch of crappy spin-offs which will soon fade into obscurity.

The problem with this whole thing is just like VR it seems really cool but we until we can jack into your head like the Matrix, the limitations of having to move around in physical space and perform actions for real means that there's only so much you can actually do in a game.

What you describe seems to be a "first person" experience. Even VR is a "first person" experience. I prefer 3rd person games and I'm pretty sure they will never stop doing them so AR can't be the future of gaming (same goes for VR).

This is just a step in the evolution of gaming. Soon we will have google glasses (or such) and we will see Pokemon and give voice commands to battle. There will still be VR and PC/console gaming ofc.

Don't think it will be exclusive, but I can definitely see AR becoming a big part of future gaming.

The game is still on launch and tons of features will come soon. I would not say Tomagochi was a fad- games similar to it are still highly popular, its just that people switch from such devices to their smartphones.
