    Tailoring: Whats the point?

So I am close to level 800 tailoring and I am suddenly realizing that there really is no point in having tailoring. The best I can get out of it is ilevel 815 gear which I can feed the Obliteratum forge a whole bunch of gear costing me a whole bunch of mats to possibly get the crafted gear to ilevel 850 but I can get 850 gear just by doing world quests that warforge/titanforge or do normal raiding to get better gear.
So why have tailoring at all? To burn through cloth for no reason?

It's for the new bags..! oh, wait...
Transmog and pets then! What every person needs without really realising it.

I'm guessing/hoping they will fix professions during this exp cause I think you are right on the issue. Same issue for bs and lw. Biggest drawback is the lack of "high level" equipable items which is kind ahard to fix atm since the ilvl inflates so quickly. Imagine if we could craft ~895ilvl gear now (which you can potentially get from wq's). If that had been available at launch people would complain bigtime about P2W.

If you imply hexweave - yes. But i think the main point is about Legion recepies.

Crafted gear should have a set bonus so there would be some incentive to use it.

Yeah I don't understand why Blizzard is afraid of crafters making nice gear. The mat costs alone is a huge opportunity cost.

I started realizing this with Leatherworking... especially after they nerfed skinning. I dropped em both and picked up Enchanting and Herbalism

Yeah you're right. Depending on expansion old recipes to be worth dumping gold into is totally useful.

Yeah I dropped tailoring for herbalism. Since there isn't a new bag and crafted gear is essentially obsolete now, no reason for me to keep it. Now I just get to farm a ridiculous amount of herbs myself each week instead of buying them.

Well if they don't do something about it soon I will dump it for enchanting/jewelcrafting/herbing, my other is alchemy but I have an alt to gather herbs.

yup i realized this 3 weeks ago, so i obliterated what i could, then switched to Herbing. If i need to craft or obliterate again once i have 2000 cloth i pay 950g to switch back. Its a new game boys and girls.

Herbalism is now 100% mandated and required.

no i was talking about about tailoring in general. legion tailoring recipes are something about 10-20k+/day to my usual profits.

    Isn't there a new bag in 7.1?

Yeah, they're adding a 30 slot bag that uses Legion materials.

Meh. I dropped tailoring for enchanting, I feel I'll make more and even if I don't atleast I can get the mats for my own enchants and save a bunch of cash.

Well, aren't we getting a tailoring saddle which MAKES RIDING "MORE CONFORTABLE"? The recipe alone requires 800 skill, and the buff simply... does nothing. The epitome of the whole tailoring in Legion. Does nothing.
No more time wasted in WoW.. still reading this awesome forum, though

It's a shame to see that they've moved away from making crafting gear actually viable. Back in Burning Crusade - yeah, way back then - crafting professions were just as viable as every other one. I remember so many people running around in the crafted robe + shoulder + helmet combo, etc. And like someone mentioned earlier, the set bonuses as well! Such an incentive to make them.
