Anywho, will be interesting to see the pricing on the 6 and 8 core parts, because they don't seem to be THAT much ahead of Ryzen and IPC from broadwell to skylake weren't really huge. If the 6 core is more than $300 I just can't see it being good enough, because I doubt we will see any cheap x299 motherboard in the range of what a B350 costs.

4,5 GHz turbo though makes me wonder if there will be much overclocking headroom left, got to remember 6600k really doesn't clock much higher than 4.6GHz while keeping decent voltage.

golden samples of 6850K can do 4.5-4.6 all cores, so I expect 4.6-4.7 all cores here (for non golden samples)

    we'll see

definitely expect the 6C/12T to be over $300 (though the 6c/12t Coffee may be cheaper then the 6c/12t SK-X), but if the clocks/OC potential deliver then its good enough for me

I wonder why the 6c/12t has the lowest clockspeed of the lot?

maybe to further segment it from the more expensive more premium models

    or maybe its lower binned

I dont think its manual OC potential will be any lower though

Continuing to force people to 28 PCIe lanes, and yet being okay with calling it an i9? The legendary i that didn't become years back? I'm offended!

But no, really, they can squeeze out 44 lanes on the others and can't even do 36 now on the lowest? Cheap.

Still, I very well might finally be upgrading my system to one of these bad boys.

Because, they used the same TIM as Kaby Lake on that one.

    j/k I don't really know.

    hedt intel CPUS are soldered

hmm, how many PCIe Lanes do 6700k and 7700k have ?

    Probably 28~ or less.

But don't care too much, X CPUs deserve more!

I'd wager it targets a different thermal profile.

It also depends on what exactly "4.5Ghz Turbo 3.0" entails. Keep in mind that for many CPUs, the listed turbo speed only works when using a subset of the cores.

  11. #11
Turbo 3.0 is definitely only for 1 or 2 cores

even Turbo 2.0 may not be for all cores, idk (Ive never quite understood how Turbo worked on BW-E and I think it even depended on the mobo too)

Manual overclocks ftw. End of story.

    indeed

hopefully this lives up to the Skylake name as for as OC potential goes

  14. #14
Jesus, with tags like "i9" and "turbo 3" I just might need one

    i7 4c/4t?

    Really Intel

  16. #16
Those are some nice clockspeeds if real, got my doubts tho. Need to see pricing before i can really say anything about these.

    Also i assume i9=all x299 chipset?

    Core i9-7820X
    8C/16T
    11MB L3
    28 PCIe Lanes
    3.6Ghz Base
    4.3Ghz Turbo 2.0
    4.5Ghz Turbo 3.0
Thinking that might be the upgrade I've been waiting for. Wonder what it will go for... Any thoughts?

if this leak is true then I would assume the 8c/16t one here would be ~$600-650+ ish ?

    but who knows with Intel

this time they have the 12c on the top spot, so 10c has to be lower then the BW-E 10c .. and also they had 2x 6-cores last time, now only one (presumably), with 8c being second lowest model (in BW-E the 8c was second highest)

    and of course Ryzen competition

that gives me hope that the 8c cant be $1000 this time .. but it might be $750-800 instead

It all depends on how accessible LGA 2066 platform motherboards are going to be. Processor specs are not that important here. If it's sub-$50 over comparable mainstream boards it's going to be interesting.
