Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.
So I chose the path of the Ebon Blade, and not a day passes where i've regretted it.
I am eternal, I am unyielding, I am UNDYING.
I am Zethras, and my blood will be the end of you.
I think immortality of sort will come first due to genetic engineering and medice in general.
And also that we will get quantum teleportation long before FTL travel, if we ever do, because it will be not much nedeed by then.
4. Develop Telepathy allowing humans to communicate and share their thoughts with one another either in Sync or at will.
We have this. It's called a cell phone.

FTL travel and telepathy are close top choice.
Communicating with ETs, maybe cool, I dunno, hard to tell.
Immortality is the end of the planet.
FTL, without question.
Immortality without FTL would result in an overpopulated Earth without enough resources to support a reasonable standard of living for anyone. We would be like chickens in a factory farm.
Alien contact without FTL would be less than useless, we would be like ants to them, and to contact them would be to invite their boot to crush us.
Telepathy would like cause more problems than it solved, assuming it was a pervasive thing that was just on all the time. Instant thought communication between people could be cool, provided it was a conversation that required some form of consent from all involved parties.

Now you're living in a fantasy world.
The elimination of all deaths, ever - that's not what he said. He said immortality. And that is a very real possibility within the next 200 years. As I mentioned (and linked) the first bicentennials have already been born.
The solutions you listed are not the ones that are going to get us around FTL - warp bubbles, jump, etc. Several drive systems that were only in sci-fy shows/movies 20 years ago are on the drawing boards of theoretical physicists. Of course we're centuries away - but the theory is already available.2. That was a mistake I meant psychics were i said physics. Light speed is the speed cap on the universe. Wormhole style drives are conceptual at best. The solar sail and (Can't remember it's name but basically it dotonates a series of explosives gradually increasing in speed) these just allow near light speed.
Agreed. Even with FTL it would be difficult to continue cohesion past 1,000 LY distance.3. Near light speed and ftl are VERY different things. A cohesive space civilisation demands ftl. Human could explore other systems with near ftl however.
Overpopulation is definitely an issue (and don't call me Shirley ) but imo we'll overcome the problems it presents after we settle into heavy automation for consumer goods and foodstuffs. Give it about 100 years and we'll see overpopulation issues decrease/disappear and a huge movement towards revitalizing and repairing the environment.4. Know I understand why you think that. Education and increased living conditions have led to a decrease in birth rate in the west etc etc I simply point that ever other example in nature when a natural control on population end. In the wild hunters. There is a population boom. Without natural death population would rise even if birth rates fell drastically. Surley your not arguing that over population is an issue?
I'd say faster than light travel. With this it could mean exploring other planets, maybe branching out and living on other planets which could also result in contacting alien species so two birds with one stone right there.
Immortality would be cool but would lead to overpopulation and we would be killing our planet.
Human telepathy just doesn't sound important to me.

FTL and limitless energy is the only option. Energy is so important to our society, and coupling that with ftl travel allows us to vastly improve our technological advancement.
We would never lack for materials because all we would need to do is search for an asteroid or planet and send a mining team. We could funnel everything into technologies for mining and production.
Limitless energy also allows us to completely obliterate world hunger because we would literally be able to grow all the food we could ever want wherever we want. Antarctica could be turned into a multi-million square kilometer farm using heated buildings with insulated walls that can grow every crop throughout the year.
Because we are able to completely remove our need for energy and focus on everything else, while also giving billions of people a healthly life, we have drastically increased our capabilities for thinking. Our machines will improve to the point that nobody would need to work.
Energy is fundamental to the advancement of civilisation. To be in a position where we never have to worry about it ever again would open up so many opportunities that it will lead to the other three poll options on its own.

Speciation Is Gradual
There is no human alive with the natural mental capacity of 50 and even if someone considered that as a natural state then they would have to have a pretty low I.Q, if their belief was a person could elect politically one way or another. Probably the same kind of low rent dip shit water carrying knuckle dragging G.I Slobe want to be

If you knew the candle was fire then the meal was cooked a long time ago.
Selfish choice: Immortality. The thought of death scares the fuck out of me atm.
For the greater good: FTL travel. As a race, we need to expand our reach beyond our planet.
Even if immortality was actually gonna be the next big thing, do you honestly think regular joe schmoes like us would get to experience it? Not over key people like the top innovators and scientists. Not by a long shot. And even if, it'd most likely be ridiculously expensive, and come with drawbacks such as being in the workforce and not reproducing. Otherwise population WILL get FUBAR'ed.
If they'd have it their way, those people would have burned all books long before any of them would even consider opening one, even if they'd live for a million years.
Person A has lived a quiet, honest life without remarkable achievements, but without causing problems either. Person B's only achievements are a mile-long criminal register and a dozen STD's caused by constant destructive behaviour, violence and drug abuse. Who would you rather grant immortality? You are essentially picking who gets to live and who gets to die, showing we're no-where near ready for any of these things yet.
Sometimes you just got to prioritize. About 0.1% of mankind is responsible for all the thoughts and innovations that bring progress -- actual progress, not the horseshit "progressives" pretend to be progressive -- to the world. Naturally scientists, philosophers and talented artists should have the priority if we ever start handing out immortality pills; then we'd work downwards from there.
With all the people watching reality TV, and others still running after socialism, I wouldn't be so sure about that.
Give me the scenario from the Film Contact.
