Who profits more of Magic Focus?

Hands down who should I give my Magic Focus buff too?

Yet I have given it to my mage friends but every other raid WL are complaining they should get it.

So who would you give that buff to?

Oh and if you have any link to an EJ threat which has that topic covered, plz post it!

    thanks in advance

I havent played a mage or been in a raid since pre 3.0  :-X, but if I had to guess why not put it on a holy pally?

Im pretty sure I remeber reading a thread somewhere (I dont think it was EJ)about this subject, and mages were saying pally is the way to go.

Try it  ;D (woops if I'm wrong  :P)

This. Though I also find resto shammies thank me a lot when I run heroics with them and pop it on them. But I'd say the hierarchy should definitely be: mage>healadin>other

Re: Who profits more of Magic Focus?

Our healer situation is pretty solid, and theres been no need to min/max buffs yet, so if all the other mages are covered, we usually put it on our boomkin to smooth out his eclipse procs.

Re: Who profits more of Magic Focus?

so no one would put it on a warlock? cause my guild WL say I got to put it on them cause the profit more of it....

I think its bullshit though... since I scale way better with crit than they do

Im a boomkin and I love my mages whenever they put it on me as it helps A LOT with my rotation.

yeah but its not about love

Re: Who profits more of Magic Focus?

from your perspective it doesnt really matter, almost every class will keep the buff up all the time: mage/boomkin/ele/lock/resto-shaman/healpala/healpriest. i dont know about the rest never gave it to them.

from the raid perspective you have to consider who does it serve the most (to answer your question)

what do you need during an encounter? heal or dps?

heal: depends on ae damage and mt damage. in ulduar you face alot of ae dmg, and atleast we had no problems with mt healing. thereforde ill put it allways on a restoshaman when heal is needed.

dps: obvious who benefits the most: mage -> boomkin -> ele / lock

Re: Who profits more of Magic Focus?

Me and the other mage in our raids use it on each other, like the other guy said 6% crit > 3%.

In the absence of him, id use it on a holy pala though.

As roiber said above. Pretty much everyone can give you a 97% + uptime. To see which class gets the most profit out of FM this link may be helpfull

    http://code.google.com/p/simulationc...SampleOutputT7

Scroll down a bit to "DPS Scale Factors". This will show you how much benefit each class gets from crit.

    Mage FFB 1.26
    Mage FB 1.13
    Priest Shadow 1.00
    Moonkin 0.91 - 0.97
    Mage Arcane 0.81
    Warlok ~0.75
    Shaman Ele 0.69

So Mage FFB > Mage FB > Shadow > Moonkin >.....

Just for the record shadowpriests are a really good target for Focus Magic in fights where they can use their multi-dotting capability. It gives them a huge damage boost and pretty much guarantees you a 100% uptime on the buff.

On more direct nuke fights it's a toss-up between many casters. We usually just rotate it since a few of our casters like to QQ about it, but personally I'd give it to the guy I felt would benefit the most from it by not sucking while giving a good uptime.

the numbers for elemental are going to go up due to both set bonuses introducing additional crit scaling factors, not to mention that elemental is going to guarantee 100% uptime regardless of gear level.

That being said, Hot Streak mages clearly recieve the most benefit from crit.

Re: Who profits more of Magic Focus?

I put it on any caster that won't click it off! :-\

Yup, many times ppl remove the buff because they think i am "leaching" off their crit. :'(

I have found that explaining or reading the tooltip doesn't work for those ppl either.

Re: Who profits more of Magic Focus?

Well from a Boomkin stand point the crit that we get is only 3% to a mages 6% but crit for a boomkin does this,

helps procs for eclipis ( which we have enough problems with RNG on RNG )
    helps with mana regain
    helps with haste
    helps with damge

More crit we have the better we are if we cant proc eclipis then are damge well be piss poor again its the dang RNG on RNG bit thats lame with crit it helps a bit to smooth it out even if its 3%.

But thats just a boomkins stand point i have the buff on me every raid and it helps a bunch just my 2 cents.

Re: Who profits more of Magic Focus?

I've had it a couple of times on my Disc priest..

If put on one of those with a nice chunk of crit, I'm sure you'll have 100% uptime on your buff.

Disc priests gain way more healingwise from crit then pallies do, because aside from letting us crit, it also gives us shields to absorb damage.

Naturally, a pally gains mana from crits.. So it depends on your situation, need more longevity or more effective healing or more dps(in which case, any of the dps recommended earlier will do).

    Choose your target.

Re: Who profits more of Magic Focus?

I usually throw it on holy pally and from what I have notices focus magic is up for me almost all the time.

When you go to "textbook", you should apply it to mages. In reality, look at your WWS numbers with the casters, whoever has the best crit %, give it to them.

The caster that will crit the most is who you should put it on. Easy.

I used to always put it on our warlock in ten-man runs until the shammy respecced elemental. As for five-man instances, I would put it on the healer if there wasn't a caster.
    For the Alliance!
