I thought Blizzard had a minimum GEAR requirement for Heroics??....

I was under the impression that blizz stated they had incorporated a minimum gear requirement for heroics, well, yesterday they showed me how wrong i was to assume blizz devs had any logic what So EVER.!!!!!!


Pugged a random heroic (cause i can, i tank), started said heroic only to notice a warlock, to be unnamed doing 250dps in a three group aoe pull. Said WTF, and inspected said lock, can you guess what type of gear they had on. They were 80.

Welll......let me enlighten you, this lock who was lvl 80 was decked out in full on LVL 70?? gear, and i don't mean all his gear....the best piece of gear they had on atm was a lvl 70??? PvP gear, and they didnt even go for some set bonus to show that they were trying. So i say WTF is with your gear man, his response and i quote "Just hit 80 yesterday, and this gear is better then most quest gear" ???. I opted to vote kick (as i was somehow the lead of group, and was promptly informed that i could not.

Yeah they do have a gear requirement. Unfortunately for some (and fortunately for others) it is not as high as the imaginary requirement dreamed up by players. The only time I've actually seen the gear requirement in action for a heroic is with the 3 new 5mans in icecrown. They set the bar at the minimum gear you could possibly haveand make it through the instance.

However, even with all level 70 gear a warlock should be able to pull down more than 250dps, so I don't think that was the problem with your specific example.

If there are ONLY 2 geared players in a queue you WILL get an undergeared player in your group. We all deal with it and can probably solo dps that pitiful heroic so just calm down or run with guildies.

This actually happened to me before when I saw a player that just hit 80 recently and I couldnt kick him/her out because he/she had 2 people from the same server in grouped. So I'm guessing that people can carry other people in heroics despite the lack of gears.

To the OP:

If you have such huge issues getting teamed with players using the heroics for what they are meant to be used for(gearing up) I suggest you go cuddle up with your elitist buddies in your elitist guild and queue up for the random heroics.

Yes there is a gear requirement, but the gear requirement is not TotC 10/25 level gear, it's set to the minimum gear required to actually clear a heroic, again not the minimum requirement you think it should be. When wotlk was released what gear do you think most people started clearing heroics in? I personally was in mostly level 70 epics simply because "drumroll" they was in fact better then most if not all quest rewards on my way to level 80, hell we cleared Naxx 25 in mostly level 70 gear.

If the person was doing incredibly low DPS it's not down to his gear it's down to the actual skill level of the player.

If you dont like playing with "undergeared" players I suggest you start rolling up your friends and grouping with them, because regardless of what you may think the LFG tool is not just there so you can get your frost badges, quite a lot of people actually use it to gear up.

Not as bad as me having to do 5k hps in heroic PoS just to keep the tank alive during trash (you know, the pull before the tunnel). I did over 1.2mil healing on Tyrannus alone and it was 89% tank healing. I don't mind going with undergeared people, it's the ones that have no idea how to play their class and have no gear that I hate going with more. I know I was once with a severely undergeared tank in a H:Old Kingdom (he still had mostly quest blues/greems, not a single epic) and he did fine the entire time. Albeit, I wasn't healing but he didn't seem to take alot of damage and that place is easy to mess up.

There is a gear requirement for even the original level 80 heroics but it isn't particularly high. Most people who have problems meeting it seem to be having problems because they are in BoA gear that is technically iLevel 1. With that said even mid 70's blues seems to be more than enough for any of the original heroics. HToC and then the Heroic Icecrown 5 mans both have requirements.

you're an idiot op. you know what? i did 2 heroics yesterday on my pally (i tanked both).
group #1 dk, mage, rogue (all 50% epic 80's). instance VH hc. each of them capped at an amazing 1,1k dps
group #2 dk, mage, hunter ( mage+dk full epic, hunter in avg ilvl 238). instance HoL hc. each of them capped at 1,3k dps - hunter sometimes hits 1700 zomg! (my hunter has avg ilvl 215 and does 4,5k... magic? or just pug hunter plain retarded?...)
at some point dk drops out. moonkin joins. (14,4k hp. obviously not fully geared yet)... and what happens? a green/blue geared (1 epic, the necklace) tops at 3,3k dps above 2 full epic geared ppl...

you know what? i prefer ppl in full green over ppl with gearrating x because until now people who were bad geared yet impressed me far more often than fully geared ppl...

Guess what else: those random heroics are tuned assuming that everyone has roughly that level of gear. So if you have 4 people above that level, you will still roll through them.

Obviously some of you are so used to the new welfare loot you forget how much harder is used to be to get geared. so what if you have to carry 1or 2 people in a 5 man heroic, harden up, its not icc.
As stated in a previous post there are higher level requirements for hor and such. if a person has just hit 80 give em a break, when you hit 80 epics dont magically appear. however if all they can manage is 400dps in a heroic ( I had a hunter doing this the other day whom i called out on it, and received a wall of hate) then they are probably bad. that's why there is a kick option in lfd.

The only time I am very frustrated is when I cannot queue with friends for heroics when they are on their alts because their gear isn't high enough despite them being extremely skilled and couldeasily pull their weight just by being skilled at playing their class and know how to play wow.

This frustration comes out when I have some one in my HOR group doing 800 dps WITH Army of the dead up or whatever but my friend couldn't queue for the new ones because her gear wasn't good enough and could have destroyed that DKs dps. It also comes out when they have decent gear on but no gems or enchants at all, not even the cheap ones. That is annoying.

No real way for blizz to predict which geared player will be a chode though. If anthing I would rather have them lower the gear requirements to let the skilled players in despite getting some bad geared peeps now and then. tbh the heroics of wrath are so easy a good tank can carry a group of bads anyway.

Back when everyone was in 80 blues, I healed every Northrend heroic in Shaman Tier 5. Had no problems at all and no one second guessed me.

There are gear requirements for every heroic. If you've ever leveled an alt and tried to queue up, you'd see that you can't even choose to do random heroics until you're at a certain gear level. If you can't queue for heroics, you also can't queue for regular ToC, and you require far more gear than that to queue for H ToC, and then more than that for FoS, more than that for PoS, and then the final and highest gear requirements for HoR.

I doubt Blizzard uses a system similar to the gearscore mod, however, because a fresh 80 in level 70 epics and bad pvp gear can get into heroics that a fresh 80 in bad quest greens and sparse blues cannot get into.
