    Boomkins in Cata

    Balance druids have been the novelty clowns of World of Warcraft for two expansions now and although their chicken like form, silly dance and laughable dps has entertained all the real raiding class and specs it has sadly come time to retire them.

    "This is for a number of reasons, the first is clearly from a development perspective - it is simply too hard to tune a boss encounter with boomkins in the raid, and some guilds are unlucky enough to have two or even three raiding turkeys and this causes the encounter to be a lot harder than initially intended as raid dps/healing and even tanks effective health are all lowered with balance druids in the group. The second is to make leather caster gear more rounded as we have to accommodate the people who are stubborn and silly enough to play the spec which enrages the vastly more useful and played resto tree spec.

    HOWEVER! Moonkins are not gone completely. They will return in Cataclysm as a player mount. It will be an incredibly rare drop from high end PVP encounters when a feral or resto druid is killed and will be bind on equip. The mount is unique in a number of ways the first one being its land speed, although it starts at 100% like most level 80 mounts we have decided to keep with the spirit of lazy moonkins and the mount speed will drop gradually with use until eventually when you try to summon your mount it appears, does a half hearted boomkin boogie then actually hops on your back reducing your run speed by 50%. In years to come we believe this will bring back nostalgic memories of Balance spec druids in raids slowing people down.

    However needed and wanted these changes are they will not come into effect until Cataclysm so you guilds with boomchicken mascots have a few months to take your screenshots of friends and raid with artificially induced hardmodes."

    Seems interesting, would make me pvp more for the mount. Seems at last Blizzard is listening to players needs and requests.

    Actaully, I re-read this, and I like this alot and it is silly. I want a moonkin mount.

    With that second post I am 67% more likely to believe around 43% of what you say because, as of now, I am only 78% awake. 2% chocolate milk to whoever knows that 10% of statistics are made-up on the spot

    Another non related wow fact but equally true, my Grandmother invented shoelaces. Before that people just were constantly losing them as they simply fell off the feet. Sadly she never got a patent on them or I would now be living on the moon.

    I think Balance will be a lot more complex than they are now. We have new, trap-like spell, a new mechanic for Eclipse, Haste will probably be better for us and we still have our regular spells: Starfire, Moonfire, Wrath, Insect Swarm, Force of Nature, Starfall (which might be toned down or changed, I fear), Typhoon and Hurricane.

    Other things have changed but we should not talk about them right now, so we can wait for beta and have a better view on things.

    The only thing I would truly like is to have the option of getting rid of Moonkin Form entirely. I hate losing Mana in a few fights that will cancel Moonkin Form (ie, Gunship when going for the Mage, not that we should, but it is just an example, or Brezzing / healing people), no owlkin has ever been reckonised as a potent spellcaster whilst humanoids are very good at it, so Moonkin Form is just bad from a lore standpoint as well.

    Anyway, I think the way we play our Druids will change a little and we might get better in those pesky situations in which we have to move. Our somewhat slow casting and movement should be a bit better comes Cataclysm.

    I suspect Balance is going to have an increase in representation in Cataclysm. As of now, many bad Restoration Druids hide their weaknesses by spamming Rejuvenation and Wild Growth and seeming like a good healer when in fact they are weak. Our HoTs will not be the same and players will have to pay more attention and play more actively, choosing spells and the like. Since Feral will still have a harder than average rotation and tanking requires a strong stomach most people do not have, I see Balance getting a bigger share of the Druid playerbase.

    OT: I lol'ed. I don't know if you just have a disdain for Boomkins or aren't happy with the way they're balanced but, I liked your take on it all. The part where they hop on your back and reduce run speed was my favorite part. Maybe you're just jealous of us laser gunning dry humping space chickens of doom...
