Wondering what your opinions are on a matter like this.

I'm in a small raiding guild doing mostly 10-mans. Every week we do a joint run on ICC25 with another guild.
I'm an arcane mage and usually we are with 3 or 4 mages in the 25-man raids. There's one mage who outgears us by a few 100 gearscore who seems to be as lucky as she is unskilled. For the last few weeks she managed to pick up quite a few nice items and the other mages (or casters) got nothing much...
I normally don't care much about loot and have graciously passed on loot for others for whom it was a bigger upgrade. In this case I feel bad cause there are other mages (including me) for which it would be a bigger upgrade and even more that would put it to good use. Last night overall DPS for the mages was around 10k except one who did around 6k(!) dps and of course she got the last piece of T10 iLvl 264 with it (while other mages have max 2 items of 264 or as in my case none).... Gladly she won't be rolling against us on that anymore, but still it's come to a point where I was glad that the trinket from Rotface did not drop or I would have gone into a rage when she would have also wont that. Any of you ever been into that position where you would have been glad for whichever person wins an item except for that one f*cking character?
Or am I just being a jerk? How do you deal with this stuff?

No, wishing something dosnt happen to a person dosnt make you a jerk, but acting out, and being a rude, calling people names would make you a jerk. Its like wishing that someone would die, but that wont make you a murderer.

Well too be honest, just start a rant like; Well if I get this and this my dps will skyrocket, yours is not improving at all. You more dps = more dps for raid. Letting items go to waste like that also makes me go mad. I feel your pain, but starting a rant like that works mostly of the time. But too be honest, your dps and explaination < boobs and she will gets it anyways.

I'm probably gonna regret this, but I was asking a serious question. This has been happening for the past 7 weeks. And it's not a matter of qq'ing about losing loot, it's not about feeling superior, but it's not fun seeing that a person who apparently does not know how to make good use of it gets an item that several others could have used better (not just me) goes to an unskilled person. It's a bit of a stretch since she has the class but it's basically like a mage rolling for a bow in this case.... then most people would also freak out if the mage would win it. In this case it is for the right class, but I would like to make progress and that person does not hep.
I have considered giving advice to that person on how to improve dps, but really, any mage in T9 232 gear would out dps her. This is not about improving imo, but learning to play. I mean, 6k overall dps, most dps did that in TOC25 gear....

Sorry, forgot that. Well since we run with 2 guilds, it a MS first, then OS. Normally I have no problems with it and it works out fine, but not in this case. Maybe it's getting to be a personal grudge, not sure... There were two other mages that I would not have minded getting it but this one....? argh!
Technically she won all the loot over the last few weeks fair and square but it sure does not feel that way.

Almost makes me long for DKP, even though I never liked that system :P

the problem seems to be lack of loot rules ... are you guys just rolling for gear in guild runs ?? thats fine in PUG's but not in guild runs because some times one player getting all upgrades don't benefit the raid as a whole.

when you join whit another guild well there needs to be talks about loot rules and maybe just rolling seems the easier option.But in your guild run there should be loot rules there is no reason why not.

in a pug a lock can win 3 spellpow swords because one after another they can be upgrades. Thats ok in "pugs". But if it had been my guild he would have won only the first one and we would have checked who actually need the next one. thats why loot rules in guild runs are necessity to help the guild grow in a better pace.


edit: another thing if that mage is in your guild you might want to help her increase her dps, maybe some tips would help her grow alot.... maybe your guild need a mage leader ?

What is this overall dps? are you counting trash, any specific fight? Does she have any other role in the fight?

Here's a suggestion:

1) What spec does she play, and are her talents sane?
2) Get logs into worldoflogs or the like and try to identify where she's going wrong
3) Approach her and ask her if she would be interested in suggestions on how to improve her DPS

Be nice and constructive and don't be surprised that with some good guidance she might soon fly past you on the meters.

1) QQ on mmo-champ about how people need to L2P and not steal your loot (and fail to understand that /random is random and doesn't favor anyone in the long run)

TBH, It's not really being a jerk thinking someone is shit and doesn't deserve loot. I myself think a certain person in our guild doesn't deserve loot when he performs bad, although I never say it out loud. I think his a great player and all but sometimes, he just doesn't do his best. Am I a jerk for that ? No, cause I don't tell it to his face it's just a personal opinion and how loot is handeled is up to the officers, I dont mind waiting for loot as I'm more of a progresswh*re who doesn't care about loot and I think that loot = Reward for raiding and progressing. Loot is just something you will replace later on when a new instance is released, progress will be there forever.

attention attention, someone who gets carried by his guild pugs, alert the mmo police to tell him he deserves to win 5 times the items of the people who carry him won because he pays his monthly fee of $15

I doubt you wouldn't mind carrying a bad player and passing all loot for him, loot you actually need. You are even worse than a jerk because you blame someone for getting upset because he does more work than someone else but gets less reward, a lot less! Wich is actually a normal reaction.

To the OP: I recommend finding a guild who does raid with only their guildmembers and use some sort of loot system that seems fair to you. Just rolling without a system would just be fine, but there are always things like this. Like someone winning 10 items in a row, wich shouldn't happen and that's why guilds use DKP.
