Hacked...

I don't know if this is where this goes or not, but if it needs to be moved i apologize. I was hacked yesterday in the hour for lunch that I logged out to get some lunch. The hackers lovingly put an authenticator on my account as I read they have been to so many others recently. I called tech support and they were able to get my account back to me and everything was fine. I was booted in the middle of checking what they had taken from me as I logged back in I found the authenticator back on my account. Call tech support a second time and they restore my account again, this time I use a password I can barely remember just so it doesnt happen again (this is after I ran spyware to see if anything, there wasnt).

Fast forward about 8 hours. I get done with dinner, wifes asleep, I figure I'll try and finish some dailies and get into a puf of some sort. Try and log in and password doesnt work. Go to my email and find a letter from blizz saying my account has been cancelled do to abuse of the economy, selling gold (something to that effect). I have never in my 3+ years even gone to a gold selling site and usually report/ignore the random whispers I get during play or that happen in trade about gold selling/buying.

Just a question. Has this happened to anyone else where, in the space of 8 hours, you get hacked twice just to come back and find that blizz actually cares that someones selling gold under your account and has banned it? I can't see them as doing a thorough background check to see what actually happened, especially as I had to call two times yesterday just to get my account restored back to me. If it has happened to you how long til you got your account back? Oh ya, when I called the Blizz main line yesterday also I got a message that " the phone number you called has been disconnected" and had to call the tech support line (which the people were very nice btw).

tl;dr: was hacked and after got account back was banned for selling gold. Did this ever happen to you or anyone you know and how long did it take to get your account back?

If you get hacked and didn't have an authenticator protecting your account I have no sympathy for you.

There is no reason to not have one. Any reason people would give to not have one is just ignorant and stupid.

In other words, do what the hackers were smart enough to do and add an authenticator to your account. I think a few seconds of hassle to enter in numbers each time is worth weeks of annoying recovery and in your case a possible lifetime ban.

have to ask did use 2 computers or one? because if you only used one that means it can be a trojan in your computer but your spyware just didn't pick it up

Just one computer. And with the authenticator, I got hacked once about a year and a half ago, but everything was going ok. When I got hacked yesterday I decided to get one and even told the dude on the other line about it. Too late I suppose, because it wasnt going to get to me in the 4 hours from the time i got my account back the second time and Blizz sent the email. (email came at 5pm i got it at 8:30ish)
But know Im going to wait to see if they give me my account back first. The email sounded like its totally at their discretion and are very weary about it. I cant see them keeping that way. If they check the logs they can see its never happened before yesterday.

I absolutely was. I even caught the toon they had made with all my gold form all my toons, not sent out to where ever they send it to. I know it was my gold cause it was about 2k thats is. Ive been able to make money in this game, but never in the amount to have enough for me to see some of it. The most Ive ever had at one time was about 7k. And thats cause I farmed my ass off to get epic flying for my second toon.

Hacking implies that someone broke through all your defenses and forcibly stole your information.

You wern't hacked. You were Keylogged. Which means you wern't careful enough.

Buying an authenticator makes you less cautious.

And ofcourse you will say you've never done this and that.
But you did and you know it. And this is the result. So instead of denieing it.
Just be honest and don't let happen again.

This is a precaution Blizz often takes to make sure hackers don't keep abusing the account. If I understood correctly though, this happened after you got your account back? Strange. Maybe you should stop whining on mmo-champion and accept that if you managed to get hacked and didn't even have an authenticator you can't really complain about your acc. getting hacked.
