Microsoft are catering to casuals and ruining computers

I miss the good old days when having a computer was something to be proud of. You had to be hardcore if you wanted to do well with computers, you couldn't be casual. You had to put a lot of effort in to computers, it wasn't just something anyone could do.

I look at computers these days and it's so boring. The casuals have all the same things that the hardcores have. All the computers look and work the same. I want my hardcore computers back! If Microsoft hadn't catered to casuals so much then we'd be back in the good days and everyone would be happy, and we wouldn't have fuckin casuals and bads with computers.

But I do the same things, I go to work, I sleep, I eat, that means I should have every right to have a hardcore computer like you.

Plus more casuals want computers, there's more casuals than hardcores so the casuals rule the computer market now.
Mike Morheim: Rift is totally gonna fail
Ghostcrawler: Yeah good thing we made healing harder!
Metzen: Guys, what soul should I get to go with Paladin and Beastmaster?

Not sarcasm, or trolling. Just food for thought.

I HEAR APPLE DOES BETTER THAN Microsoft THESE DAYS. You are right, if you want to be hardcore, switch to Apple.

For the first 15 minutes you are staring at a black screen, the next 30 minutes you are watching monkeys throw poo at each other. That's 45 minutes of complete nonsense.

a nice chuckle indeed, this thread has potential for some activity
Unfortunately, until the people at Blizzard take time to quit explaining why they are right and anyone who disagrees is wrong, they are not going to even hear everyone speaking out desperately trying to warn them the ship is sinking.
the problems driving players from WoW aren't content or the age of the game, the problem is how the game experience and design philosophy are being undermined by Blizzard's hubris and greed.

Just because they are catering to casuals does not mean it's bad. I for one dont have the time to spend all my week building and tweaking a computer. We have dell for us casuals and little stalls at computer fairs for the hardcores.

    Casual =/= Bad

We all get to see the same thing!

Wanna know how I got these scars? My father was... a drinker. And a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not-one-bit. So - me watching - he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it! Turns to me, and he says, "why so serious, son?" Comes at me with the knife... "Why so serious?" He sticks the blade in my mouth... "Let's put a smile on that face!

Actually it was Apple that started it. Microsoft just mimics them.

Re: Microsoft are catering to casuals and ruining computers

    There is one main difference:

An OS like Windows is to help you accomplish a task. It is a layer between you and what you want to do. So it should be as transparent and easy to use as possible, not to interfere with the task at hand.

WoW is a game. The fun of end game raiding is the sense of accomplishment you get after beating a challenge. So the game needs to be challenging. You could make the bosses so easy that everyone can solo them, but where's the fun in that?

So if your goal is to have fun through beating challenges in the game, the game should be challenging enough for you, while the layer in between (Windows) should be easy and "casual" so it doesn't distract you from the game.

With computers you get more and more "content" and there will always be "content" for hardcore computer engineers or programmers
    That's a good reply.

    Good try, but missed slightly.

WoW is a computer game and it's primary function is to provide entertainment for the masses. Some players are entertained by sense of accomplishment, some are entertained by purplez, some are entertained by soloing stuff. Making the game more casual friendly is lowering the bar to getting started, not finishing the tasks for you. Just like making computers more userfriendly lowers the bar to start doing something productive with it.

Just because newest Word is easier to use for beginners it doesn't make you Shakespeare. In the same way raiding is still hard in heroic modes and the best gear still requires raiding the hardest instances.
