    Whats the deal with Outland?

I never truly understood how Outland got as it once was to how is now.
    Let me re-word that.
When Ner'zhul ripped the planet apart, it was once a planet like Azeroth, the Twisting Nether was once an ocean, but how did the ocean in between all of it become a bottomless pit in the Nether?

    Think about it.

the portals opened up by Nerzhul and his ilk ripped apart the planet. and if was already susceptible to the damage due to how the fel magics effected the world.

OP, wait untill the first wave of trolls and bullshit passes then come back when the people with serious answers are here to help clear it to you :P

But for what i understand, the nether itself fused with what remained of the planet, some laws os physics in there are not working as intended at all times, i cant remember everything by now.. it have been some time since i read about it, but it is as if Outland is now something in betwen the nether and the physical realm, and that explains most of the weird things you see there.

Not to mention the endless fighting of dran, orcs and demons. Lets have those things attack earth and see how it fares.

It was once a planet just like Azeroth, yes. But as stated, it got ripped apart by all those opened portals, and the Twisting Nether as it is now is more of outer space than anything else. Sure it breaks some laws of physics as we know it, but hell, lets remember; there are portals too!

Because if they constructed an entire planet on the scale of Azeroth it would've taken way more development time and resources, so instead they created a bunch of zones, smashed them together and filled in the gaps with the "Twisting Nether". Northrend would've been hanging in the abyss had it not been a continent located on a planet that is still whole, but it is surrounded by an impassible ocean which functions the same way as the twisting nether.

This sounds like a Seinfeld joke from when they'd make fun of Jerry within the show.

My biggest problem with Outland is how poorly the zones flow. At least in Northrend things change a bit more gradually, whereas in Outland most zone changes are extremely abrupt. The best one is probably Hellfire<->Zangarmarsh. But Blade's Edge->Netherstorm? Nagrand-Zangar-Terrokar-Bone Wastes within Terrokar--all of those were pretty fail transitions. Shattrath<->Nagrand was a fairly good one tho, as well as Terrokar-Zang.

Also, Silvermoon looked ridiculously like a gingerbread house. Are these serious elves living here? It honestly would fit better as a casino level for Sonic the Hedgehog.

The Twisting Nether is most definitely not an ocean... To put it simply, we have outer space, they have outer space and an extra dimension called the Twisting Nether that is also linked to all planets, though time and space don't work quite right there.

The Twisting Nether has never been an ocean. It's another plane of existence, really.

It's a land outside of "our own".
    Also magic. Those crazy orcs.

Re: Whats the deal with Outland?

The portals all opening up at once blew the planet up.

    What Outland once was:

Supposedly, the whole planet was similar to terrokar and the forests inside of Netherstorm's eco-domes.

As for how the continent retained its shape, a wizard did it.

I say this with utmost respect: Read Beyond the Dark Portal (and possibly Rise of the Horde). That should explain everything.

    Quote from wowwiki:
Outland was created when Draenor became the focus of an attack, via the Dark Portal, of an Alliance expedition aiming to end the orcish threat to Azeroth once and for all. In the midst of the ensuing battle the Elder Shaman Ner'zhul attempted to allow the remaining orcs on Draenor to escape to other worlds by opening other dimensional portals; however the presence of so many portals tore the planet apart, leaving only torn fragments of the former world floating in the Nether, and the barely-habitable remnants were renamed Outland
