Is +resistance gear going away in Cataclysm?

Is +resistance going away in Cataclysm? Has it stayed or has it merged with stamina or..?

I haven't seen any gear with resistance on it, but the stat is definitely there. Currently Mark of the Wild and Blessing of Kings give a ton of resist (+214 at level 82).

Resistance gear was used like twice in the whole of WotLK. Many used it for their Tanks on Hodir and a few used it for Sindragosa, thats about it. It certainly is one of the less needed gimmik mechanics that mostly bothered tanks in WotLK (while it was a concern for all players in tBC). If it is gone it is gone for good. It just annoyed most of the tanks as it had next to no real challange tied to it and just weakend plate tanks more than those OP druids with their free crit immunity.

With the mana issues Blizz seem to want healers to have, I can see Resistance gear becoming more important.

Hmm, I kind of hope so. I would think with the new changes, Blizzard would either make it important again or get rid of the stat.

Well the stat itself is quite usefull for supportive (yeah I know does not exist blah) roles. It lowers aoe dmg, so I'm ok with it staying. But I don't need it on my gear.

i guess it will be just like now. resistance is there, and makes lots of encounters a lot easier but is mostly acquired with buffs like aura of resistance.
i hope the last bit of resistance gear like atm frost resistance wont be added at all, its just anoying.

I personally hope that this never happens again I hated doing the whole, farm for 20 hours for keys and gear and other random stuff just to do this dungeon for the first time.

    Hydross the Unstable.

You needed a tank with Frost resist and a tank with Nature resist for him.

currently, resistance is the only damage mitigation stat that doesnt change as the level increases. 20 resistance at level 1 absorbs the same amount of damage as 20 resistance at level 80. If i am correct in saying this, there is already craftable arcane/frost/fire/shadow gear, with the frost being wotlk, and the other 3 being BC gear. even without this gear, by changing up a few enchants and gems, one could easily get up around 40-150 resitance to a single type. my bets? they will probably have all 5 types craftable with around 700 stam pieces each, a few gem slots, and nothing else.

Thats not quite right. As a tank you always strife for the resistance cap which does in fact change with the level. Currently its around 400 and something (dunno didn't care much about it this xpac) where it was alot lower in bc (around 350?) and even lower in classic. I think up until now it scaled linear with your level, something x + 5*level to reatch the cap. The point about is also not the flat dmg decrase but the huge chances of whole or partial resists for all kind of magic. Which meant, as a warlock shadow tank you often had like a 90% chance to 100 restist but sometimes you were struck by a shadow spell three times in a row and ended up dead or nearly dead or something like that.

Craftable Resistance gear has always been around and no one really uses it but for tanks and I have a feeling it's going to stay that way. Really is a waste though.

Personally i really hope that they've do that, because it gives one a whole new feeling of acomplishment when you for an example get into MC after the long questline, or Onyxia - Or even Karazhan! You can't just walk into the instance, kill everything and leave, thats why PVE is so horrible in WotLK

You dont even need rep for Heroics anymore!

You can gimp yourself going max resistance+resilience in PvP if you want against some of the classes/specs ;P I would believe having max fire resistance against a fire mage is better than having max resilience :P and then if you mix it, it will turn out even better!
