    Is this email real?

    Greetings,

An investigation of your World of Warcraft account has found strong evidence that the account in question is being sold or traded. As you may not be aware of,this conflicts with Blizzard's EULA under section 4 Paragraph B which can be found here:
WoW -> Legal -> End User License Agreement
and Section 8 of the Terms of Use found here:
WoW -> Legal -> Terms of Use
The investigation will be continued by Blizzard administration to determine the action to be taken against your account. If your account is found violating the EULA and Terms of Use, your account can, and will be suspended/closed/or terminated.

In order to keep this from occurring, you should immediately verify that you are the original owner of the account.

To verify your identity please visit the following webpage:

Blizzard staff will verify your account information submitted in two days, please do not modify your account information during this time . It will not affect your game uptime. If you are unable to successfully verify your password . using the automated system, please contact Billing & Account Services at 1-800-59-BLIZZARD (1-800-592-5499) Mon-Fri, 8am-8pm Pacific Time or at billing@blizzard.com. Account security is solely the responsibility of the account holder. Please be advised that in the event of a compromised account, Blizzard representatives typically must lock the account. In these cases the Account Administration team will require faxed receipt of ID materials before releasing the account for play.

    Regards,

    Account Administration

    You fail, hard.

I'll find a previous post of mine and copy it here, be right back.

    Edit: Here it is...
    ---
Checklist for incoming mails that might be from Blizzard:

    1. Is it on the mailaccount connected to your battle.net account?
All scam emails I get about WoW are NOT sent to my battle.net account, so that's obviously all fakes.

    2. Is the email actually originating from Blizzard?
Check the source of the mail, not just what's written in the From field. In the case of hotmail, which is where I get my scam mails, it looks like this:
    X-Originating-Email: [NotReallyBlizzard@HaHaHaHa.com]

    Message-ID: <something>

    Return-Path: NotReallyBlizzard@HaHaHaHa.com

    Received: something

    From: "noreply@blizzard.com" <noreply@blizzard.com>
While the From part says Blizzard, the Originating Email says it's a hotmail (in most of the mails I recieve, obviously changed it here for clarification) adress.

    3. Are the links in the mail identical to where they actually lead?
Mouseover works in most cases, you can often see clear differences between written url and actual url.

    4. Do they write the correct, for YOU, wow page?
I'm from europe, I should get www.wow-europe.com links. Most of the time I get www.worldofwarcraft.com links. BIG difference. I don't have a US account!

If any of these 4 basics are wrong, it's a fake mail. Ignore it. There are several other steps to take to make sure your account is still working as it should, but in the case of emails, any of these 4 steps are enough to find out if it's real or not. You don't even need all 4...
    ---

In addition, Blizzard will sure as hell BAN first and ask questions later, rather than tell you to go tell them that you are you and then maybe ban you after that...

Email headers are easily faked. Not to mention eu-battlesurveyus is clearly not a blizzard domain. If it looks real to you then you shouldn't use your computer without parental supervision.

One time I got a scam email where whoever wrote it forgot to actually put links into the email. Now that was amusing.

If you have to make a post on MMO Champion to ask if it is real or a scam, THEN IT IS A SCAM.

    Other handy tips -

    -You didn't win a mount
-You didn't win a competition you don't remember entering
-If Blizzard found you selling your account they would not send you an email asking you to get back to them "or else we will ban it". If you were selling your account, they ban it, then send you a mail AFTERWARDS explaining why you can't log in to your account.

its fake 90% of the time. Blizzards link would work. It wouldnt hurt to call though.

The above 2 posts are from cool people that I'd like to meet in real life and be friends with. (sarcasm)

Yes, this is a scam. NEVER click links. Ever. Ever ever ever. Just log into wow and you will know whether it was a scam or not. NEVER CLICK A LINK. If some dude walks up to you and asks for 5 dollars to buy a Ferrari and you are at Fry's Electronics, are you going to give him $5 or are you going to ask follow up questions or want proof that he is going to buy a $5 Ferrari?

edit - well the third and 4th posts are cool people I'd like to meet and be friends with. Not the above two.

There is actually a sticky, on both EU and US forums, about all the different scam mails they recieve. Much faster, given the average wait time on the phone, to simply scan those stickies (identical info, no need to look at both) and see if the mail is there already.

Actually you can "spoof" email headers but the origin of the email can NEVER be completely hidden in cases like these with companies when it comes to knowing if it's actually from them.

Even if they use an open relay SMTP server, you'll see that it did not come from Blizzard or whatever company.

I've never received a fake email from Blizzard, and I play this game since the beginning. Do you know what is the big secret ? Make a special email for your battle.net account and DON'T give it to anyone in any circumstances. It's that simple...
