Ok listen up boys, me and my friends have been discussing alot lately is auto shot really an ability or not? xD

Yes, Hunter ability only. No other class has it.

No but Hunter auto attack has a 15% haste built into it that replaced the quiver. You don't get that with a Rogue. It's an ability.

Ok but listen, an ability is something you activate right? like in warcraft 3 a hero´s ability aint auto attack or auto shot, it is fx. divine protection or what do i know, therefor auto shot is not an ability according to me

You can "activate" auto shot. The default hotkey is 't'. And, it's in the spellbook (without a 'passive' modifier)

It is an ability. Only hunters have it and you activate it by right clicking on a target or pressing the >Ability< on your action bar, just like, say, Serpent sting or Aimed shot.
And stop telling people to "listen" and calling us "boys" for all you know anyone posting here could be female or older than you >.>

If you stand in a field and something hits you do you automatically return fire? No? Then Auto attack is an ability you activate by that logic. You just activate it before any other.

Edit: Activation is T apparently. Been a long time since I used that =P

I'd say Auto-Shot is different than not shooting anything at all, no? It's an ability, it's listed as one in the spell book, and it functions as one.

As mentioned above, it is an ability. It can be toggled on and off, just like any other ability. Also, it is class exclusive for hunters.

But it is different. It is a unique attack that hunters activate to cause damage... if it wasn't an ability you wouldn't be able to put it on your actionbar anyway.

This is WoW, not Warcraft 3. Within every aspect of the game (Hotkeying, macroing, etc) it is treated as an ability. The game defines it as an ability. Whether you feel it isn't "different" enough is irrelevant.

the difference is you wont use it because its not really an ability, because its just "auto shot"

Herein lies a more in depth thought to your question, Auto-shoot automates shooting from range for hunters, which is an ability that no other class has, it in turn allows us to also fire off other shots while still maintaining our normal shots.

Its not under the general tab, so :P thats not the reason.

Also consider; Priests, Mages, & Worlocks, can shoot their want w/the ability "Wand" in their General abilities. This ability allows them to use their wand when not casting spells. Yet no other class can do this.

Honestly mate, you've had 10 people disagree with you and say it is an ability. You have what you asked for, the consensus is 'It's an ability' Arguing with us to try to convince us otherwise is rather pointless.

And for christ sake, stop saying listen up and boys.
