Clarification on pvp gear in cata

So what they are saying is that all the most current pvp gear will be available for arena points once the season starts and it will be for no rating, AND if you hit 2200 rating all you get is a recoloured normal pvp weapon?

  2. #2
I believe you do not need rating in order to get your t1 weapon and your set, but if you get to 2200 you can buy your t2 weapon. So basically anyone can get a decent set of pvp gear, it'll just take time to do so.

The t2 weapon is the equivalent of a weapon from a heroic raid, as it is on live, it isn't just a recolor.

I believe there was something said to the effect of "there are two versions of the vicious gladiator's armor sets. They have the same stats, but one is a different color and requires rating (as a way to see who the higher rated folks are)" but do not quote me on that, I can't seem to find it now.

Everything but T2 weapon = no rating required
Different looking set = rating required, but same stats
    T2 weapon = rating required

One question ive had about pvp gear is why no hc quality pvp armor. I mean they are doing hc quality weps and the hc bosses will need to drop armor to have enough to drop so.....

They are trying to get away from loads of tiers of gear. Heroic quality PvP armour is a bit like the recoloured i guess. In PvP you dont want to let people have unfair advantages.

I wish they would go beyond recolors, and make the rating-less gear look like complete trash. Like seriously random junk armor someone found in the locker room before heading out into the arena. And make the rated gear look as bad ass as possible. Just so that people in freebie gear feel like shit.

Cuz they're trying to stop the QQers that are saying it's unfair for better players to get better gear.

While I agree with you Bobzor, you can also explain it as: They're making sure everyone can get to the same playing level gearwise. What you do with that gear enchanting/gemwise, and of course playing skill will still set apart the pro's from the noobs. The noobs just can't blame the Pro's for being OP due to having a gear advantage anymore.

I do agree that they should have made a more visual distinction rather than just color.. but then again, a recolor into red/gold from steel/grey is quite a visual difference.

interesting !! i would like to see what rating reqs they place on the rated versions and i do hope they do look worth the effort
My biggest concern has been for the most that i feared blizz would kill the motivation pvp'rs had to get into arena.I mean with evryone getting a no rating pvp gear , that would be great for competition, but competition is'nt really that great if the prize isnt worth it.

I guess in essence it is not that diffrent from the current season, first off relentless gear is available to all and by the time you get close to getting an 1800 weapon your almost in full wrathful gear.So gearing diffrences for those serious in pvp were to an extent managable, especially with 1800weps being icc25 man quality so still accessible.

I kinda liked the tiered progression relentless->wrathful gear->1800wep->helm->shoulders then a serious attempt at glad.It really did give all pvp'rs work to do.I really hope they consider this issue as they release further details

But the problem was.. having to go into Arena for them because of the rating only being linked to Arena. Me personally, I hate arena. I'd love for them to remove that "motivation" I just want to do what I enjoy, BG's. I don't see why I have to go to an Arena to get gear which I want to use in BG's. Its just a rather unrewarding place to be atm. Rating on BG's would be a big help!

no, they are trying to make pvp more fair.

It would be unfair if someone started with the best available gear but not if they're earning it ;0

All blizz is doing is turning pvp on live servers into what pvp is like on the tournament servers. The good players will clearly stand out after everything gets going despite everyone running around in exactly the same gear.

Nope, both will most likely look like shit (just look at the T11 so far) while the one will be blue and the other will be red, enjoy!

Cata PvP and rated bg's are going to be a lot of fun. Even as an arena player I'm really looking forward to doing bg's with my guild to earn the gear. Rise of PvP guilds for sure...it'd b nice to get a Warlord Title : )

First off i find it very hard for anyone who loves pvp to hate arena's , i am not a pro myslef i have only reached 1900 once in second season of wotlk.First off in arena you need to carefully co-ordiante (by voice) cc's and choose when to go for kills, when to reset matches when to go defensive etc, when to worry bout mana .It's actually amazingly fun and challenging.

For me Bg's i can only speak on behalf of the horde of vindication battlegroup(US)--these guys suck soooooo bad, doing a daily bg it's loss after loss after loss and then luckily i get win.The faction change which blizzard brought about made things even worse for us , many just went allaince coz they could not take the constant losses.

Even worse our realm has a huge population imbalance favouring the allaince so we get rolled over all the time in wintergrasp to the point many pvp'rs avoid it like it was meant to be an allaince post

so you kinda see my point arena has been the only "fair" form of pvp for me, shouting at afk's and trying to make people even bother about winning bg's can make you go mad.

    in regards to rated bg's

i would also like to know more about this since i am skeptical in that that first off 5v5 is generally the most unpopular bracket in arena,so it's hard to convince me that getting 25 plus people around at the same time to do bg's would help the situation. That what stategy and sophistication in combat would rated bg's bring? , you can almost say goodbye to healers worrying about mana coz all they will do is chug a mana pot.If you die? np come back to life full mana get back in the game.

Basically what blizzard is saying is that if your bg sucks like mine, just get a group of pvp'rs together in good gear and make a premade.
The only reason i see pvp players going for this on my server or on my battlegroup is because our normal bg's are unbearablly bad. This may also have a negative effect on normal bg's in that all the "good pvpr's" will do rated while all the worst players will be left all together in the normal bg's(wtf 3/4 of the team afk??)

@ Walexia, im under the impression that rated bg's =/= regular BG's. you need to have a premade to do rated (same with arena) so simply saying "my battlegroup sucks ass" isnt a accurate indicator.

Also, i greatly enjoy any form of player vs player combat (not just wow) but i HATE arenas. Its simply too small scale. the maps are not interesting (this part is my opinion, i dont like the gladiator feel, i enjoy actual maps).

Ultimately its my opinion, when i play pvp in any game i pick the largest numbers (whatever the largest vs number is, 16 vs 16 is commonly the largest).

Larger number of people in something that looks like a actual landscape, with actual objectives (not just kill the opposing enemy) is more fun for me then 3v3 in a arena where the only goal is to kill the enemy.

    But thats just me ^^

I'm glad we'll finally be able to get decent pvp gear outside of the arena. For me the problem with arena was comps and carries. I just HATE the fact that I can't have fun with a friend in arena and stand a chance to win since we're not in the *Top* comps, in full honor gear too. Also at 0 rating on ur first match it kinda sucks to face that ±30k self buffed 1.2k resil disc priest paired with some arms warrior geared in the best pve gear you can think of.

Anyway thats just how I feel about it, nothing against ppl who like arenas. In BC and wrath (omg bc...ahhh good times) I BG'd my socks off and trust me I'll be there for rated BGs

what i meant to imply is that everything that has so far been done with bg's and mass pvp has rubbed me the wrong way so i may come across as very cynical of it's re-introduction in cata.(horde loose bg's 90% of the timeon my battlegroup)That being said i have been a fan of bg's since the start, my favorite being eots and warsong gulch.I am very excited about twin peaks and cannot wait to play it.

So horde in my battlegroup will flock to rated bg's not because their cool or fun but rather coz normal bg's currently on our battlegroup suck.

i understand your frustration, i too was'nt a big fan of arenas and it is true that certain comps have it much easier than others, it is also true also that one needs to sit down and think real hard about the comp they wanna run, how far they wanna go(to 1500 or 1800 or 2k plus)and what streangths and weakness you have. It's also true they will be comps that you will face that you most likely never beat unless their bad or they make mistakes or you get lucky. It also need a great partner the person you are working with are they able to cc on que , make switches, peel when you need to.

Id say arenas are like the heroic version of bg's, but hey I love bg's too you can get a chance to just run around without having to worry bout alot of things like having to work ultra close with the members of your team, you don't get penalized for running oom or dying coz you just rez and get back in the game. That is not a bad thing at all, rated bg's would be a whole lot more stressful for people if they used arena rules like once your dead that's it, arena water and no pots etc.

I would like to try rated bg's when cata starts hopefully i will be able to balance my schedules better and be able to raid and do arenas too

You will be happy to know there will just be one bg per language sone. So your bg will probably not be the same at all
