Do any of you heal without Grid / Vudu / etc ...

Since I started healing four months ago, I have been using the following scheme

    1. Clicking on target
    2. Pressing a number key ( with possibly CTRL modifer ) to cast a heal

Using VuDu for the first time, I do like the fact that heals are more... deterministic. Since clicking will mean a heal... and there is less room for error from mis-pressing keys. However, I feel as though I have a lot less control with my heals.

Perhaps it is just that I am not used to it.

I am wondering whether anyone here ignores the healing addons after having used them, or if I'm the only one.

EDIT: Just to be clear... I use a grid-like addon to see who is HOTed, how long my lifebloom has left to tick, etc.

However, I do not combine it with tools that let me "click" the boxes to heal. Rather, I click the window and immediately press the appropriate key for the spell i want to cast. Honestly, I feel it makes me feel more engaged in the fight... plus I feel like I am much more mobile, since I am one of those people who 'righ-clicks' to rotate my character.

I use no addons to heal and manage just fine. Sometimes Decursive, but I gave up on Healbot and other such clicky addons a long time ago.

Once you use it more you'll get used to it, and a clicking addon takes a step out of the process which always leads to faster reaction and more accuracy.

But, outside raids you really don't NEED an addon. I think heroics without amazing dps/tanks will be a bit tough, and even with great people since you have to move so much, but you CAN heal with anything.

The Blizzard raid UI is actually pretty good since it was updated. But no real progressive raider will use it and only it.

And don't make me close this by turning this into a flaming thread. He's a newer healer asking a question.

I've used healbot since I started healing and I also use it to keep up my buffs and can't imagine going about it how you are. I wasn't a fan of Grid simply because it shows just a small colored square in a given corner to tell you if there are any problems or if something is about to run out. Healbot shows, for example, my riptides and a countdown to when they are up so I can instantly be on it to keep it up along with who I have earthshield on and how much longer they have it and how many ticks are left of it.

It's hard for me to use add ons like Grid, Clique and Healbot. I simply forget the CTRL modifier or it takes too much time to set up and I grow impatient. I'm middle aged woman with a lot on my mind. But I also feel there's a lot of time wasted Locating the Target that is losing health by the mouse moving over to their frame, clicking on them and then either back to click on the heal or by pressing the number. Then again, I'm an old person without the quick reflexes of a early 20 year old or teenager. So I was looking for a Healing add on and I found Healium. The people you are grouped with are all in one local area on your screen (movable) and you assign your classes healing spells on a small bar. When the person needs a heal you just click the button of the heal on the person's bar. There's also a Built in range finder, shows CDs. You can expand the bar from a 5 man group to 40 man BG raid. I haven't had time to heal a dungeon or raid yet with it but I did heal a 10 man BG on my Priest earlier today and found it very easy to use. Very Nice, so far.

I've used Grid since it came out, but more and more I am using the built in once since patch 4 since it does tell me everything I need to know, and grid was slow in updating so I started using the built in and it seems actually quite fluid. When I'm healing on my druid I almost prefer it so I can see what HOT's I actually have on a person.

About the time I began raiding way back in the beginning of Wrath, I had no addons to speak of. I was doing decent enough healing but it wasn't great.

Then I discovered Grid + Clique and now I won't be caught dead without them. They're incredibly easy to customize and set to what you want to do.

Addons aren't required, but they sure as hell make it easier on you, especially when the person you're trying to heal is blocked by 15 dps, a boss, and another tank.

I used to use healbot when I first started out raiding in wotlk but since the new blizzard frames I haven't yet found a need for it. Yes it takes out a step of the process but I think sometimes is the step that quite a lot of people overlook

i use healbot to target, cause its compact, track enemy targeting, and show the inc heals. i don't click to heal, I've set healbot to ''click to target'' cuz you can choose what healbot do and its not just casting heals lol.

I still use normal keybind to heal aka 1-2-3-4-5-6 etc.... modifier or no

I've only been using Clique since 4.0.1 now that the built in raid/party frames are more than adequate. If you're going to use a "all-in-one" healing addon I still think Vuhdo is the best by a mile. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but it's well worth it once you're done.

Honestly I can't see myself healing without vudu. I used healbot through basically all of LK and it worked great too, switched about a week before cata came out. It really helps to have a mouse with more than 2-3 buttons, as 100% of my heals are tied to my mouse so I don't have to worry about the ctrl modifier and such. As Myrarr says, it takes a single step out of the process of healing, which can be the difference between life and death in some situations. I'm pretty sure every sentence I just typed was a run-on, but i'm too tired to go back and change em >

I didn't use any healing UI mods until Ulduar, and man, 25 mans were a PAIN to heal with the standard Blizzard UI back then
I used Grid + Clique for a long time, now I'm experimenting with Vuhdo. I don't have any click casts though, I use click to target people, then hit the spell I want to use on my keyboard. It might be slightly slower but I enjoy it. Vuhdo definitely requires some patience to set up, but once you do it's pretty decent.

I've been healing since late TBC and stayed ever since.

Personally, I've never liked Clique or equivalent click-healing addons. I prefer to target something then decide what spell to use. It may be (slightly) slower, but I find that my accidentally clicking the wrong target and casting at it wastes more time. That said, I do like having an addon for good grouping of targets, as well as keeping track of HoTs. On top of that, I require the addon look somewhat decent. I tried Vuhdu and Healbot and didn't care for the setup of either, as they seemed unorganized. It's been almost an entire expansion since I've tried them, though... so I suppose it's worth another shot?

Grid however, has been my pride-and-joy addon. Bottom-left Rejuv, Bottom-right Regrowth (mattered more pre-4.0...), Top-left-and-right aggro warning, despellables in the center icon, Center text 2 Lifebloom colored duration, and border Wild Growth. It shows me everything I need in a small, concise manner. It looks good, and for me, just gets the job done. <3 Grid.

If you don't have it coupled with Clique, Healbot, or Vuhdo (etc.), then I really think that having to click on a target to heal creates a delay in response that can, on some levels, become an issue of someone living or dying in your group. If you're worried about sacrificing movement, and you're comfortable with pressing buttons to heal, try looking into mouseover macros. They'll improve your response time without forcing you to click on things and sacrifice your mobility by binding things to mouse buttons.

That being said, when I started out healing, I healed using the Blizzard raid frames. It was challenging in a raiding environment because I wasn't able to react fast enough. I tried Healbot and didn't like it, so I kept doing what I could until I stumbled across mouseover macros for healing. I haven't looked back since.

I heal completely fine, with a Shaman and a Priest, usually #1 in any raids I run. I do it with no addons except decursive. I used to use Shadowed Unit Frames, never even attempted using heal bot, just seems like it'd take the fun out of playing.... but gave up on being dependant on them updating them after patches, and also find the game a heck of alot more fun without it. With the Shaman I always used to use Totem Timers too, but Blizzard has done a great job revamping their UI and I really see no need for addons anymore. I encourage anyone to turn off their addons if give the vanilla UI a chance if you haven't used it in a long time.

Vuhdo for me. I absolutely love it, and have used it since early/mid wotlk.

Yeah well I am very impressed by blizzards attempt to intergrate proper raid frames into the game. all i am using for healing now is clique. I used to use x-perl but i dislike the party frames and only want raid frame style bars when in a party.

Standard UI and mouseover macros. No reconfiguring addons, ever.

The built-in raidframes are perfectly acceptable for raiding.
