It's not excellent... it's completely inaccurate and disrespectful to our armed forces. I have a friend who is in the EOD and served in Iraq and the 'Stans and he said that nothing in that movie portrays how it really is. EOD doesn't go busting down doors, get into sniper missions and look for bad guys. That is another units job, not EOD. EOD does one thing and one thing well, dispose of bombs/explosives. Hurt Locker did not deserve that award last year.
Guess what? It's a film, not a mockumentary; nor is it based on a true story, and not a single character in it was meant to be real. There have been far, far less accurate portrayals of the armed forces in the history of cinema, often considered incredibly disrespectful by many viewers, and still some of them rank as the greatest films of all time.
Do you honestly think the Vietnam war played out as it did in The Deer Hunter or Apocalypse Now? Unanimously considered two of the finest films on the subject.
How about the ludicrously inaccurate, over-melodramatised tosh of Schindler's List and Hotel Rwanda? I'm sure you regard those films as historically accurate, and probably enjoy them. They're far bigger culprits in their offenses than THL.
And anyway, if you watched and understood the film, you'd see that the underlying theme of The Hurt Locker is not even linked to the US Army or the Iraq war. It's a film about the relationships between men. The setting isn't important, let alone how accurate the actions of the characters are.

Avatar was a tech demo, and it definitely deserved to win Best Special Effects, but there is no way it better than anything else last year.
Also, I'm more worried that Nolan didn't get nominated for Best Director. Hooper didn't do enough with King's Speech to warrant getting nominated above Nolan.
I re-watched all the good movies of this year over the weekend so that I could have a good view again, I'm sorry to say it but Nolan did not deserve to be nominated over the other directors. Inception was a good movie, but not a great one. It was well-directed, but not masterfully directed. It was a great idea, even if Donald Duck did it first.
The Social Network gets a nod over Inception purely for the fact that Trent Reznor did the soundtrack.

The golden globes are run by a bunch of old greyhairs that are too ignorant to accept anything new other than what they know.
Christoper Nolan is going to be one of those directors who doesn`t get one until 15-20 years past due date and it`s a terrible thing to have to watch.
imo social network was amazing great story great acting and my favorite line was when the twins were arguing about suing him "im 6'4 220 pounds and theres 2 of me if i wanted to kick his ass i would" numbers might be off but idc i got a good laugh out of it =p
I found Inception to be very lackluster. Of course, I'm really no a fan of Chris Nolan, so I didn't really expect it be good. The Social Network, on the other hand, blew me away. It was insanely good, and it deserved to win.
And while we're talking about Avatar, why does a script have to be original? I mean, how many movies are truly original? Cameron tried to do one thing with Avatar, to make a really entertaining movie, and I think he succeeded with just that. But then again, Avatar is one the most talk-about movies in recent, of course there will he haters. Becouse hating on stuff is cool.
Social Network won because it portrays facebook. What alot of you may realize by may not fully realize is how big facebook has become to society. Any website you go to now or store there is a sign saying "Like us on Facebook". Facebook has revolutionized the world for social networking and advertisement. That is why the movie won over Inception.
As for Avatar how can you say it was not a great movie? Because it copied the plot of Pocahontas? One of Disney's most successful movies of all time? Saying Avatar was bad is saying that Pocahontas was bad as well. You can only make songs and movies about stuff for so long until you start running out. Avatar was a great portrayal of a love story about 2 people from different worlds (literally this time) while also taking CGI to ground breaking levels. Cameron had spent years waiting to develop a movie like he did. To say Avatar was not a good movie to me is a disgrace. It being the highest grossing movie of all time in US & Canada.
