Pug tanks, oh great, i hat...... Wait what?

I have to say, I'm pleasantly suprised, every pug I've been in has had at least a decently skilled tank. (last couple of weeks)

and not just that, their all sociable too.... what is happening?

where have all the egotistical horribly skilled tanks gone?

    ....Not that i miss them.

Is it same for other people?

nah man i'm still here, but the reality is, we are all going to heroics with guilds or friends because we just cant deal with pug dps and dear god pug healers. Personally, I'm only missing epic legs and gloves, and have given up heroics all together.

I'm running with usually 3/5 guildies, but as a healer I HATE healing idiot tanks, I'm only doing heroics for valor atm.

Think it's mostly because instances are less forgiving, which weeds out the bad players.
Also I haven't come across any dk's with dps spec/gear or warriors with 2h's that claim they are great tanks :P

Yeah its easier to suck with your guild and with your friends who dont have the stomach to tell you how bad you are.

Thats what the bad ones have resorted to.

I happen to be a tank myself (as well as a Rang. Dps), and I find most of 'em dps people a lot more skilled than I Wrath. I try to help the tank when I'm doing a random (as either melee dps or ranged) with my tricks of the trade. (Traps.. Gotta love 'em. :P)

Currently, I am levelling a Worgen Druid (which is currently in level 63) and each time the tank is seemingly afraid of pulling stuff. Ah well, I might have a sadistic tone from time to time, but healing (that's what I do on my Druid in randoms) is something I'm good at.

Oops, that was a bit off topic, but eitherway: Tanks are currently more mature than what they were in Wrath, due to the "hard modes in HCs". Seeing tanks stick with people is something that I appreciate (as a dps(/levelling healer)) and thus I'm helping the tank with whatever he/she needs.

Not the tanks have changed ... but the dungeons showed the wannabe-tanks that they're dps and should stay so

Started leveling my pally alt yesterday from 80 to 85. Really shitty geared retlol, since I didnt bother playing with it during WotLK. The 1st instance I queued had quite a bit fail in the air from the beginning. The 1st tank we had was a dk, who decided not to wait healer to port in but ran though the 1st corridor of ToT dying pretty quickly. Twice. I then said that healer just mentioned he's doing this Hyjal quest and not here yet.

We waited the couple of minutes it took for the druid to fly around the Hyjal and then proceeded to clear the 1st corridor and managed to do that without wipes. Then the next single mob where our tank stood on the green pool 'til the mob died, ran to the elevator, which happened to activate b4 any of us managed to get in, ran to the corridor and died. At this point he left.

Next one was dk also. The packs of 2 mobs in the easy-mode gauntlet went quite ok, but after the gauntlet tank decided to aoe pull the 5-mob pack, small mobs and also the big one. Wipe and tank left. Luckily we got another DK who was queued as tank pretty soon afterwards. Too bad he wasn't even tank. Retard chose to queue as tank w/o any tanking spec. Vote kick 'retard' succeeded.

At this point I teleported out of dungeon, went to AH, bought a ilvl 316 shield and 1h weapon, respecced my OS to prot and finished the instance. My gear pretty much still sucks. But after that horror I chose to level my pally as prot.

This. Sorry, short response, but this is why.
I bet about 50% of the WotLK tanks are now dps <3.

To be honest, the evarage skill of the random dungeon player is increasing or i have just been very lucky past week.

Or at least they are starting to learn the fights.

Oh they are still there. Had one yesterday at 83 stonecore. No CC marking, no help, no nothing. Just really really bad attitude. Finally as he wiped 'i killed you so you can learn a lesson'. I'm like...Wtf. I didn't do anything. Oh then he says 'who you going to kick him or me'. We never discussed kicking him, but that was a really good opportunity. Needless to say we went back and killed the boss easily (after getting a new tank) without that ahole.

Apart from one who called me a "fat bitch scrub" for asking for mana time before he pulled a boss it's been pretty good.

Okay, so I'm a tank and generally always have 3+ other members in my random groups.
Once did DM with only 1 guildie and it was horrible...

So last night everyone ninja logged after the raid and I still needed to do my daily. Wasn't feeling to well, so I smoked a joint and sat down and queue'd.

First shock: it was Grim Batol T_T
Wondering if I should just leave and call it night, I start the first pull.
No CC classes aside from an ele shaman, so all the dragon packs had to be just hard tanked. Everything went well, though the shaman was doing retarded threat (without doing the damage to back that up), but that was because he just started nuking as soon as I threw 1 spell T_T

So we get to the first boss and because someone asked it, I kept a malignant trogg stunned during the second spawn, killed him during the enrage phase, shield walled and we downed him, getting the achieve (for them at least, I have the drake already).
Second boss no one dies and only the shaman dies at the third. All the trash gets 1 shotted and we make it to the final boss where the warrior once again suggests doing the achieve. As this is one of those achieves that makes the fight FASTER I agree and we split up DPS and we're done with the instance in a good 45 min. No one in the party knew each other and the healer was from my realm as well XD

So yea, I was pleasantly surprised by this PuG. Everyone else was pretty pleased as well.
One of the smoothest GB runs I've done so far if it wasn't for the lack of CC.

I'm a tank myself, and I tank some heroics when I arrive home late. While pug runs can't be compared to guild runs, I don't run into major issues either. Heroics got very noticeably easier as ppl geared up too, so these days I don't fret if I can't get a guild run going.

The more heroics people do, the better gear and hence easier heroics... You will see a lot better tanks these days
I know but one thing, that i know nothing

    They still exist.
Just last night I had ToThc, Paladin tank with a few greens and pvp gear. Ok, I'm not badly geared and I know the instance well should be able to manage. A little further inspection showed him with no gems or enchants, ok, so he doesn't really care about his gear, no worries maybe he's a good player. The spec looks a little off, seems to be missing some key talents, no worries maybe it's just his 5man dungeon spec...
WAIT, WAT. he has nearly 60k mana. That can't be right for a tank, inspect again... yes, he's using intellect plate gear in about 1/3rd of the slots.

I ask him if he knows he's wearing his offspec gear, no reply and he charges into the first pack of 4 with no CC, with a little bit of help from the DPS frantically trying to CC mobs and popping all CDs (including a time warp) the pack dies, and I have 0 mana left. The mage puts up a table for me... WAIT, no... tank has already pulled the next mob, I run over, pop sfiend and do my best to keep the tank alive but to no avail.

He then whispers me all kinds of abuse for wiping us with much profanity, I proceed to exit the instance, try to vote kick him (which fails? :S) and ignore him. Since the vote kick failed and I don't fancy wiping much longer I then afk in SW AH until I'm kicked so I can join another dungeon.

    What a silly system.

I have yet to do one heroic with atleast one mentally stable pug DPS or tank. Haven't been in one of those since first two weeks of Cata release.
Always some monger who qued with 333 items in inventory, full gree and unenchanted. Backpeddling and keyturning, and to add to that they're acting elitist and rude. Made resort from doing heroics.

I rolled tank back in WotLK and tanked alot of the hard modes to ICC - I never thought myself as "uber" or "leet" but fairly average.

Although that was with a DK, I main changed at the start of Cata and now tank with my paladin - and with the Cataclysm HC's I tend not to PuG where I can and will run with guild groups, but when I do have to PuG I find that the groups vary depending on what its formed of.

I find myself being a little more cautious in PuG's, and alot more relaxed when it comes to guild groups.

Wiping is part of the learning process so i'm in no hurry to be leaving groups when things go a little pear shaped.
