    Fuzzy's 2011 Upgrades

Looking for some input on these upgrades. I'm not looking to hear "X is compatible with X", as I already know that all of these parts work together just fine. I just want to see if anyone can spot some better deals or anything, that my eye missed.

Budget is ~$500 dollars. Might throw a PSU into there if it gets cheap enough.
Reusing SSD, HDD, ODD. (Damn cheap dells.)

Hm. OCZ is a pretty good PSU manufacturer. Anyone have anything bad to say about that PSU?

The upgrade is hard to justify, tbh, at least for the 2500k; you have some room to increase multipliers with like 4 on your CPU as well.
in terms of price/performance, I'd wait for a later version of the cpu. (Like how the i5-760 replaced 750, or 930/950 did the i7-920)

GPU would be a generally better upgrade, imho. Don't like case or heatsink, but what else is new?

(edit, assuming I remember correctly about i5-2300 and GTS450)

I'm comfortable with my GPU right now, as it's playing all the games I want (And more) with respectable FPS. I'll probably get into the new 6XX line next year for my GPU upgrade.
Currently I'm 100% unable to overclock my CPU. I went into my Bios and there was nothing there regarding voltages, my multiplier, or even my RAM timings. (Bastards.) (I know I was in BIOS for the record, I've overclocked quite a few computers for some buddies.)

I swapped the Case out for a cheaper Rosewill (They actually have good cases, what do you know? I still passionately hate their PSUs.) and went with the PSU I linked above.

What board do you have then? An Oem-one or a h67? A p67 mobo is a good upgrade regardless, then, but, I hardly see you getting enough benefit considering the price, but in general, it does look good.
Too small of an upgrade than I'd consider, though.

It's an H67. Sec, I'll poke up my system specs.

Seems solid. It keeps its promises, but it's nothing fancy or bells/whistles. Don't think you'd be dissappointed.
    But way overkill ;p

Honestly, if I were you, I'd just buy the p67board alone, and then nudge it up a few speedbins, and hold off the CPU-upgrade until the next K-model, or the decreased dye-size. (Ivy bridge)

I'm generally skimpy with PSU's but that seems like a good price for the wattage, plus it's modular. That's a damn good price for a $600 modular PSU imo.

    Also, CPU-Z is fucking up...

    [bInitDriver] path = C:\Windows\system32\drivers
    [bInitDriver] GetCurrentDirectory = C:\Program Files\CPUID\CPU-Z
    [bInitDriver] GetModuleFileName = C:\Program Files\CPUID\CPU-Z\cpuz.exe
    [vGetOSVersion] m_iOSVersion = 2 (6.1)
    [vGetOSVersion] m_bIsAMD64 = 0
    [bInitDriver] m_hDriverMutex = B0
    [bInitDriver] m_szPath_2 = C:\Windows\system32\drivers
    [bInitDriver] m_szFilename = cpuz135_x64.sys
    [bLockDriverHandle 13:54:42] WaitForSingleObject error = 258
    [vReleaseDriverHandle] release mutex = 0
    [bInitDriver] bInitDriver returned 258
    [vCloseDriver 13:54:44] WaitForSingleObject error = 258
    [vCloseDriver] CloseHandle(mutex) = 1

G43 is slightly cheaper, and the only difference between it and the G45 is Firewire.

found this about the 700w-version at least. I generally trust reviewers who dare to be critical and not only praise.

Hm. Anyone wanna' recommend a cheap, modular alternative that's 500-600W?

    Hmm, well then.

Also, I dont think the low end MSI boards are as robust as other P67 boards. I can get a UEFI screenshot when I get home if you want.

ie: I'm pretty sure my bios has no LLC option.

    I could get the... That.

OCZ has some not-so-great PSU, and they are pretty terrible with their rebates, but that particular power supply is pretty good.

Didn't I link you this one already sir:
    Antec TP-650 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...antec%20tp-650
    @69.99 using $10 off w/ promo code EMCKFKJ27, ends 4/7

For the record, I'll be purchasing these rather later in the year.

IMO P8P67 Pro and drop the case to something different

CM 690 II Basic ($70) would net you enough for the p8p67 without upping the budget

    That seems a little overbudget.

Maybe you could opt for that ASRock board Cilrazz is using? Or a UD3 Gigabyte board.

NCIX's weekly sale starts tonight too if you're alright with them.

If you can, hold out on the case to get another more important component. What case are you using now?

    ... Second.

It looks a little something like that.
    /gags

For the record, my SATA cable isn't resting on the CPU fan. It just looks a lot like it.
