Well.. Sony, this sucks for you.

Aparently now sony online entertainment(SOE) or station has been hacked which is sony's mmo based section.

    http://maintenance.station.sony.com/

    The mmo's they run are:

    DC Universe Online
    Everquest 1&2
    Planetside
    Star Wars Galaxies
    And a few other mmo's

Edit: Could a mod move this to actual general.

Even though I really hate the anonymous cowardly nerds hacking Sony to ruins, I have to admit they really did it this time...

What I hate the most is they are ruining it for normal people who just wants to play games just to prove a point. It's things like this that makes you lose respect for groups like that really, screwing over regular people.

This could happen easily to any operating system no matter what happens now. Just because Microsoft or Nintendo isn't targeted yet, it doesn't mean that their systems are bulletproof or secure.

Ever since I was little and the first Playstation came out, I never trusted it.

    My gut was so right.

Sony pushed their PS3 users 1 step too far. Now they are feeling the backlash for their draconian ways as their internal company security is being challenged. I would feel sorry for them but they brought it upon themselves. For the users though, I would protect/change whatever information you had associated within Sony.

Has Anonymous been confirmed as the source? Sure, they may be skilled enough, but they (generally) only hack as gray shirts (troublemakers, but no malicious intent)... I can only recall a couple of intrusions where they did anything but DDoS, and even then all they released were email addresses.

As for Station, I agree with capslocked, it could easily be that they discovered the same vulnerability used to shut down the PSN in Station's OS, and they're quickly patching it.

Last i checked credit card details were encrypted. Details such as name and address for example, are not.

"We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily. In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately. We will provide an update later today (Monday)."

They're investigating the intrusion, and noticed an issue. Could have had the same shotty security, and decided to fix it. Nowhere does it say "We got hacked again, whoops"
