Candidates for Game of the Year - 2011

As we enter into Q3 2011, I think a retrospective look at the games of 2011 is in order.

There were some surprises and some disappointments, but at the end of the day, I think 2011 has been a pretty good year for games.
It has been a year of sequels, with the Portal, Crysis, Dragon Age, and Dead Space franchises all releasing a new game.
The long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever finally made its appearance, to much criticism - although personally, I liked it.

There are still some very good games on the horizon too, with Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 slated for later in the year.

Judging from the games already released, if you had a say in the matter, what would your "Game of the Year" be?

For me, I would have to say Portal 2.
From its relatively bug-free release, great polish and overall presentation, Portal 2 has it all.
I was reserving judgement until Duke Nukem Forever came out, and while I enjoyed the game, it is by no means game of the year.

Skyrim could be a strong contender, but it isn't out yet, and so I will wait until then; but unless it is something very special, I doubt it will be better than Portal 2.

What's your take on things?

Portal 2 by default. Its a great game for sure, but I haven't played anything else. My PC is a piece of crap and I'm not into console gaming anymore.

Battlefield 3, Skyrim, RAGE, Dungeon Defenders are my Games of the Year.

If the Console-Port is not so bad, maybe The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim or NBA2K12.
I don't thing any of the Kiddy-Shooters will be really good. BF3 will be BC2 with new Maps and the Call of Duty Kiddy-Game will be like all the bad Call of Duty-Games since Part4.

woah woah woah, where the hell is twisted metal? although i would want it to be game of the year, i think realistically it's going to be mass effect 3, RAGE or BF3. my money's on mass effect 3.

For me, Portal 2 and The Witcher 2 are the best.
Duke Nukem Forever is not very good, but it's really memorable cause we have waited for so long time.
Dragon Age 2 disappointed me. It's the worst for me.

Guild Wars 2 most likely not coming out this year - everyone relaxed and can hope their games can qualify for GOTY. Enjoy..

I doubt it to be honest. I'm thinking mass effect 3 will get it. Pretty safe bet when you look at the awards that ME2 has been awarded. Hell number 100 out of the top 100 games in the past 6 years I think. That said I think TOR is a good bet also, it's really just mass effect the mmo in another universe. Just my opinion though.
