Has the infamous Apple logo overshadowed actual product quality?

Apple’s iPhone 5 is seeing heavy demand from consumers, even though they know absolutely nothing about it.
It's a testament to your brand name and image when a plurality of consumers are willing to buy your product without even trying it... or even seeing it with their own eyes.

So frenetic is the fever pitch that 35 percent of nearly 3,000 US consumers surveyed online said they would buy the iPhone 5 upon its release later this year, according to Experian’s PriceGrabber shopping website.

The survey of close to 3,000 people found that 35% were willing to purchase Apple's next-gen iPhone when it hits the market despite no information on the phone currently being publicly available.

Except for the phones that were of equal quality. I checked the reviews of my phone vs the iPhone 4 and they were neck and neck in reviews. And I didn't have to hold mine with a spider grip so the antenna would work.

I will never buy an iPhone, simply because I prefer to keep my music and apps and widgets and wadgets on one device, and have calling and texting on another. I leave my kid to play a game on my iPod touch, and shortly thereafter, the battery is nearly dead. Cell phones are essential these days. I like to think of it as one "luxury" battery bar and one "essential" one.

OT: When it comes to Macs, it has, at least. There's no arguing that everything about them is overpriced. As for iPhones, it can be argued that they're the best smartphone out there. Droids are trying to keep up, while iPhones have room to forge ahead. And no, just no, fuck your blackberry, grandpa.

Anyways, I can see people buying the iPhone 5 on release, if they don't already have an iPhone.​ If they do, and it's a more recent model like 3 or 4, then it's a little ridiculous, and probably accounts for those who are just looking to brag about it anyway, or have enough money that it means fuck all to them in the first place.

The difference with consoles is that the next generation of consoles will have to be significantly more powerful than the current generation to warrent its production. Just look at the hardware specs for the Wii-U in comparison to the Wii, for example. It's leaps and bounds a whole different machine, whereas the iPhone 5 is unlikely to offer anything other than some minor improvements.

The statement about Windows is equally silly. When Vista proved to be a terrible OS, many people simply stuck with XP, and only upgraded when 7 finally came out and offered plenty of stability. Unless 8 offers something dramatic (it will not), I would not be surprised if many people stuck with 7 for a long while.

I got an iPhone 4 the day they were released from AT&T one week after it's official release. Wasn't dealing with the bullshit that was Apple stores the day it was released. Will probably do the iPhone 5. When you have a track record as strong as Apple's, people don't need to know anything about it salivate over it. Apple is to consumer electronics what Blizzard and Bioware (pro-tip: I dislike Bioware games, but see enough people praising them left and right) are to video games. You don't need to know anything about the product to know it's going to be good.
