Yu-Gi-Oh vs. Magic the Gathering vs. Pokemon

Alright MMO Champions, this is for all you TCG fans out there.

We're talking about getting down to business with these games and actually PLAYING, not just collecting.

Which is your favorite, and why?

MtG is more balanced and tends to draw in way more adults than Yu-Gi-Oh, but I find YGO to be a very entertaining game nonetheless. I guess I don't feel as stupid while playing MtG as I do playing Yu-Gi-Oh. Pokemon has never appealed to me.

Yu-Gi-Oh was easier to learn. Magic is way older. Pokemon made for a better cartoon.

I played Mtg pretty hardcore in my younger days, around the Tempest block is when I stepped out. I tried the other 2 and found them to be... shallow is the word I'm looking for. Magic always seemed to surprise me with the things my friends and I could find to use against each other.

magic the gathering by far i used to love yu gi oh as a kid but it just got rlly dumb

I was better at pokemon than magic, and had more cards collected. Yu gi oh was neat, but got so boring really quickly.

Cant for the life of me remember how to play any of them though...

Yu-Gi-Oh would be the cheapest possible investment. They've flooded the market with those cards so much that none of them are worth jack spit, so you'd be able to make 'ultimate' decks for very little investment.

I haven't played Pokèmon since I think the 3rd set lol, so I can't really comment on it. The rules are VERY basic though, easy enough to learn.

MTG has THE steepest learning curve of any TCG I've played (including WoW, L5R) but to me is much more fun than the other two. I've been playing since Alpha, and still play regularly (actually going to play with some friends as soon as I finish this post lol) but the investment cost is ridiculous. For the cost of a tourney-winning T2 deck right now, I could probably build 50+ Yu-Gi-Oh decks that would wreck face.

Easy to learn, cheap to play = YGO
Hard to learn, expensive to play, but a hell of a lot of fun = MTG
Want to play with 10 year olds who whine about losing = Pokèmon

    There are your choices.

Magic just confuses the hell out of me. Pokemon is just too out there for me. Yu-gi-oh is where it's at son. Seriously though I don't play any of them anymore got too old for it.

    MtG for me.

Pokemon trading cards was just ridiculous. Pokemon being a massive franchise, was about the TV show, the games, and plushie toys and collectibles. For a card game, it was pretty horrid and confusing as a kid so I didn't get into it.

Yu-Gi-Oh actually isn't that bad, I'd call it MtG 'lite', since they're very similar but Yu-gi-oh is far easier to pick up and play than MtG imo.

MtG is pretty much the table top monster card game. It's far more complex than yu-gi-oh and imo more fun and far more strategy goes into it rather than yugioh where you blitz for your best monsters and rape face in like 4 turns and ofc it's a more mature(lol) card game. Yu-gi-oh was more like a kids game to me, like playing CoD MWF over Counter Strike 1.6 kind of relation.

Been playing MGT for about 6 months now. And I'm so glad I did. I bought a fat pack and a deckbuilder's toolkit to get started and play with my friends. Now I go to Friday Night Magic at my local nerd zone (pencil&paper, MGT, Comics, Manga...) and its been great. :] Took me only 3 games to understand how it worked. ^^

Making a good deck is the most fun/frustrating part! Worse at drafts. Omg. >.<

The 5-colored mana system of MTG has really made it one of the best trading card games out there. Lots of different strategies and playstyles to suit any player. That and having thousanddddddssss of cards made already, I don't see it disappearing anytime soon.

The pokemon tcg system was horrible, they were better to collect than to play.

Oh yeah and to stay on topic I use to play Yu-gi-oh before it got went beyond the 2nd half of the 1st yugioh series, and I kinda lost intrest. Was simple and felt cool at the same time.

Sad? That is something to be proud of. I flaunt it over everyone.

Pokemon in terms of video games.
MTG in terms of tcg. Just bought the Ajani VS Nicol Bolis Duel Decks today, actually :]
Can't wait for the new set to come out. I'm a huge fan of Lilliana.

Magic: The Gathering, easy. I never played Yu-Gi-Oh!, but I watched the anime. Fun to watch when it's massive holograms, somehow I doubt that excitement extended to the actual card game.

I never played the Pokemon card game either, but I played the Game Boy game revolving around it. Way too many coin flips and randomness for my taste. Less strategy, mroe luck.

Deadlands was the best CCG ever sadly it did not have popular appeal.
