Y'know, I recently read that book, and it was destroyed...so, yeah, you're correct, it's a retcon.

Edit: Seems like an unnecessary retcon, going back in time and alter the timeline to get an unstable and dangerous weapon like the dragon soul... :I It was destroyed. Twice. Last time for good. So unless they make a new one, which would then be only a drop of water compared to the original because, you know, dragon aspects ain't gonna donate blood for that a second time.

Good job not reading the whole article, we go back in time(caverns of time instance) and retrieve it before it can be destroyed.

We go back in time and grab it early on. It eventually gets put back in time where it's supposed to be.

So it's more of an expansion of continuity than a retcon.

Holy crap... really? Did you guys even read the rest of the news updates? No, it hasnt been retconned to be not destroyed anymore. You are going back in time to get it before its destroyed (then likely replacing it, or this is where Mal'furion "hid it").

OT: Yes it is a retcon. If the dragon soul drove everyone holding it mad, a rag-tag group of 5 heroes should be no match for it either, and given the vastly destructive power of the thing, there's no reason to let it be retrieved.

It makes sense when you remember that we are friendly with a guy who has the power to bend time to his will, more or less.

We go back, we snag the Dragon Soul, we use it to stop Deathwing, Nozdormu puts it back, Deathwing finds it, it gets destroyed.

They're going back to the point before Malfurion hides it.

It's not actually destroyed until Rhonin does it 10k years after the war of the ancients.

As you can read in the dungeon preview for the new 5 man COT we go back in time 10.000 years when azshara tries to create a portal for sargeras. So we fight our way to the well of eternity and borrow the dragonsoul and so disrupt the ritual (as mentioned in the book) go back into our time, use the dragonsoul against deathwing and bring the dragon soul back so that history maintains the way it was.

The timeline doesn't get all messed up after we grab it, because sometime in the future we will return it, thus preserving the timeline.

We, as players, will go back in time to grab it from Malfurion's hiding place. Who's to say that later on Nozdormu couldn't place it back to where we grab it from? Meaning it was never missing in first place. ^_^

You see the issue there? It went missing, noone except Malfurion knows were it was hidden. And Unless they're that desperate, I don't think he's going to just up and tell.
