For all we know this could be Book of Glyph Mastery 2.0 in terms of functionality and how it drops.
If you're quitting over THIS, then by all means, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

If this was implemented, they would also have to implement a daily "Cataclysm Gem Research" or something similar, as that's what happens with Inscription (Book of Glyph mastery/northrend Inscription research).

If they make it like Book of Glyph Mastery then this will be an epic fail. People are greedy and sell them for high prices whilst complaining there are either no gems or they're too expensive. :/

Hmm, from an AH goblin point of view I'm not sure if I care.
The way I see it, epic gems will be cataclysmically (heh) out of reach for most players, making the rare gems even more coveted, even a long time in the expansion. If I can't profit off epic gem jewelcrafting (I don't do dailies, and I don't raid) I can still profit from the old market, it's not that bad...

What really matters, is where does that book come from?
Let's just hope (naively) they are purchaseable from the JC tokens most of JCs with brain have probably stockpiled up.
On the other hand the source can be something as stupid as rare raid drop, which means that then most LOW realms won't seen most gems cut any time soon at all.
Another thing is that people with multiple JC chars on a realm are screwed the most by this, since you can't CHOOSE what recipes to learn on which char

maybe these could just cost 20 marks each to get a gem pattern, that will actually fix it as far as i think. charging 5k a cut becuase your the only one on the server with the pattern you want. plus your not gonna put these gems in anything but heroic raid gear imo.
