Definition of poison.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poison
If the "water" that you are referring to contains chemicals that could cause damage to body/organs/tissue/cells, yes than it is a poison.
there is no real significant difference between 1 ounce of sugar and 1 ounce of high fructose corn syrup.
cane sugar contains glucose
fruit contains fructose
dairy contains lactose
wheat and barley contain maltose and dextrose
they are all sugars, the difference is some are sweeter than others so a larger amount of HFCS is used compared to sugar to get the same sweetness. personally i don't drink soda because i hate the carbonation, but from a chemistry standpoint your body treats sugar and HFCS the same way.
neither are really bad for you in moderation.
I say drink whatever you want, just do so in moderation
oh and the only reason why they are considering taxing HFCS in the first place is because they already give subsidies to corn farmers to encourage food production. which in turn makes corn cheaper than cane sugar and therefore HFCS cheaper and more often used,
It's a money grab. The government needs more money to support their overspending and massive bureaucracy, so they pick on easy targets (tobacco is another one).
Also, oxygen is a poison as well FYI, it just happens to be a poison that works for us in certain amounts.
Meh, I stopped drinking soda when I left my teens. Soda in my opinion, is a kids drink. Hell I can count on 1 hand the amount of times I've had soda in the past year.
Men drink coffee (black or with milk, no sugar) in the morning, water during the day (at work) and beer/whiskey at night. Leave the sweet shit for the kiddies.

Bad food is just more readily available than good food in the United States.
To what degree the corporations, government, or the people can be blamed for this is arguable. Everyone let this happen just for the sake of convenience and to make a quick buck. Bottom line is that people can't continue to eat this junk because health care costs are unsustainable in the long run, unless we're all set on a obesity and diabetes epidemic.
A good example of this is the fact that school lunches have steadily become less healthy. Only now are people starting to realize the long term damage and finally lobbying for reform.

What I put in my body is my choice, and i should not be charged due to deciding I will trade a few years of my life for enjoyment.
If the government has that kind of authority they could tax meat/salt/tea/butterand other absurd things because they could potentially have negative effects to my health.
And should they ever try to deny me of my freedom to do such things not only will i ignore the law but should the need arise I will protect my freedom with lethal means if necessary.
If they start taxing people for being unhealthy to themselves and no one else around them then they will have to tax people to breath as well since there is pollutants in the air and so breathing is being unhealthy because you are subjecting yourself to said pollutants.
But in all seriousness they will tax whatever they can get away with and it will just kill businesses increasing unemployment which then means those people will not be buying products which means where they shop goes out of business and the cycle repeats until they can blame it on capitalism and then try to convert the country so socialism and a dictatorship, some people will think its great at first until they realized they just allowed themselves to be enslaved and lose all rights they did have and by the time they realize why we kept the government out of the private market it will be to late because by the time they notice what is happening they will have given up all their powers and rights over to people who should be preventing such power grabs not creating them.
HFCS is fine in moderation. Just like Sugar is fine in moderation. If you intake too much of either it can cause heath problems.
I've heard both arguments back and forth on HFCS and lived in countries where they use real sugar instead of HFCS in pop (I refuse to say soda as it is indicative of the progressive American laze in taking the time to learn and maintain grammatically correct English). All I can say is soda pop using HFCS gives a much grimier body-wide feeling after I have consumed. I also lose weight much easier when I cut out any HFCS from my diet and switch to sugar based regular pop. That's just my experience.
Get subsidies on the production of raw materials, pushing prices down below the cost of production; get paid by municipal water sources to use their water for your bottled drinks; use post-consumer recycled content to produce plastic bottles at a net profit; sell soda on store shelves at 50000% mark up; lobby government to raise taxes on sodas, increasing your profit margins, and at the same time trick consumers into campaigning on your behalf for their beloved drink.
