    Exclamation [Help] Computer problems

    Mmo-Champion's I need your help,

Like the title says I need help with my Windows computer. This is my first Tower PC, I have always used Mac computers in the past so I am lost and need help. So firstly I will explain my basic information than the problem:

    Basic Information:

I got this 2-3 year old computer off a friend and I have had it for about 2 weeks. I know just the basics when maintaining and fixing a Windows machine so I have tried all I know. I told this friend about my problems and he said he's never had any problems with the PC before, and nothing even remotely similar to my current problem (he used only 1 40'' TV display, compared to my current setup of 2 monitors 24'' and 20''). So dead end there. I think I know what the problem is but I will let you guys make that decision. (I think it has something to do with the Display Refresh and running off the same video card) I could not figure out a way to run a monitor off of each video card.

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
    Processor AMD Athlon™ IIX4 620 Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
    Memory: 4096 RAM
Video: ATI Radeon HD4800 Series x2
Wireless Card: Linksys WMP600N Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual-Band (I Think)

    Displays: 1920x1080 (32 bit) (30Hz) and 1366 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

The monitors as of right now are connected to the top Video Card and I have them set as multiple displays "extended". I know nothing about displays or setting but they are both on their max resolution. The only thing which seems weird from overlooking the displays is the Hz different? Does that affect anything, can I change that?

    Problem:

Over the last 2 weeks I have had 7-9 Blue Screens. I have never seen the blue screens happen until I was actually talking to a friend today on skype about this problem. From my quick glimpse at the blue screen before the restart it said something about Display Driver Error? (also said something about driver error before the crash ) Which makes me believe it has something to do with the monitors. This also makes sense because most of the blue screens (crashes) seem to happen during night time when the displays are off or inactive.

Everything is updated on the computer from what I can find or have been able to find.

    Fix:

Any suggestions or idea what I can do to solve this problem?

    Off Topic Problem:

I also have been having a weird problem with my wireless internet. I sit around 3-5 bars on average from where my computer sits in my room. No problems or even any increase or decrease speed from my knowledge. However, randomly the wireless will drop to 1 bar and all the internet will stop. (This can happen and range from once a day to once an hour) (meanwhile MacBook laptop is fine with internet and does not have any problems) So it's not a internet problem, so it has to be something with the wireless card?

To fix the problem currently all I have to do is disconnect and reconnect and internet is back up and running fine.

I am on school internet with something like 50GB down and 25GB up and I also have no access to change anything on the wireless router that supplies internet. (almost thinking about going Ethernet to solve problem + WTB 30ft Ethernet lol)

    Conclusion:

I thank you in advance for any and all feedback and all of it will be greatly appreciated.

It might be a video driver problem. When was the last time you updated your drivers? If you have updated them recently roll them back to the last drivers and see if you have the same instability.

Now with the Internet thing the last time I used wireless net I had these same problems and just ended up drilling a bunch of holes in the ceiling and walls to get a wire to my room. I've found over the past few years that wifi is increasing worthless unless you have the best of the best in hardware.

Grab the minidump file from c:\windows\minidump created by the blue screen and toss it in some minidump analyzer. It will point you at the file causing the bluescreen and you will be able to know what is causing the issue.

Hm, first of all download blue screen view http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html and check what dll, sys, or w/e caused the problem. I hope your os wrote minidump files before rebooting ur computer. If option to write minidump files aint enabled on yar computer > check this http://kb.acronis.com/content/2191 how to enable it.
step into everything will gief ya nothing, mon

Thanks for the responses, I am setting up as I type this a Bluescreen analyzer and I update my drivers (11 outdated) none of which were video related but I am reinstalling the latest for the video cards.

I will update if I get anywhere or have any problems. Still taking any other suggestions.

Upload the minidump like Phexed suggested.

It crashed last night when I was sleeping. (both monitors were turned off and only Chrome was active)

Here is the minidump for last night.

So it was caused by NDProxy.SYS what is that?

Edit: From a quick look around (Google Search) seems like that is a really important driver :/

A 0x116 BSoD is typically video related (source). It's strange that it would be pointing to NDProxy.sys. In any case, I would scan your system files first. Open a command prompt as admin (start, type cmd, right click cmd and Run As Admin) and type sfc /scannow. That will scan your system files to make sure there's no corruption. It might take a while.

Second, I would uninstall your current video driver package (drivers, control panels, everything), reboot, and then reinstall them. Using a program like Driver Cleaner Pro to clean up any left over bits of old drivers may help as well. You'd use that after the uninstall, but before the reboot.

It's something with your video drivers, might be because of you running SLI and it's bugging out.

Starting the scan now, I re-installed all of the drivers yesterday but I will do it again after the scan.

Does it have anything to do with running 2 monitors off 1 video card? I have 2 video cards but could never get a monitor to run off of each.

    Thanks for the responses.

Running in SLI, the two cards essentially act as one, so that shouldn't matter. If I'm wrong, someone correct me, since I have almost no experience with SLI.

That's true, it shouldn't be a problem. If the updating of video drivers won't work you should try taking out one of the cards and running the other one alone, just to see if it messes up again.

Scan came back 100%. I will re-install all the drivers again and try that. If it crashes again I will try the 1 video card after I give the computer a good cleaning.

Also I have done a fragmented scan and fixed all the problems and a full computer scan for any problems. All Clean.

So no luck thus far... could it be a bridge problem between the video cards? Old guild mate said it could possibly be that, if so what could I do?

Did you try with one card and see if it still messes up?

stupid question: did you use some kind of driver sweeper in safe mode before getting rid of the drivers, or did you just overwrite? Either way I've been looking up on ze internet, and it seems like overheating that crashes the drivers for whatever reason. I don't see why it would happen with only one of the cards used though.

try the other card in single mode - asuming you didnt do that too

    also- if that doesnt work
install the default microsoft video card driver. the one which comes along with windows - remove the ati drivers first.
see if you also got a problem with the default drivers .
if that also doesn't work reinstall windows - if that does not work either, something is really really wrong and will be even harder to locate.

While it might seem impossible, I think it's because your cards are faulty. Either that or your motherboard is freaking out somehow. A last resort would be reinstalling windows and then wondering wtf happened if it fixed the problem.

    *edit
Thought some more, and it could be because your cards are old, and the drivers don't support them anymore for SLI. You could try to rollback to older drivers and see if it fixes it. It's a long shot though.

Looks like I solved the problem with a full wipe / reinstall. Thanks for the help.
