Baffled with my video card, help please.

Alright, so last night I started to build my new rig. The new components I was adding were:

    ASRock MB-P67E4G3 Motherboard
    Kingston HyperX SH103S3/120G SSD
    Noctua NH-D14 Heatsink
And an extra 8Gb of Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B

I put all this into a new case Corsair CC600TWM-WHT

On top of the new hardware I have a 650 Watt PS, GTX 460 01G-P3-1371-RX and Intel i5 2500k.

After plugging everything in I turned it all on and voilà, everything turned on like expected. Except, on my monitor I got no video signal. I went through the basic troubleshooting steps, checking all the cables, etc, everything was good. I couldn't do much more by myself so I went to my friends house to do more extensive troubleshooting.

We installed my video card into his computer and behold! We got video signal. I thought maybe it was that I didn't have enough wattage, so we plugged in his 850 Watt PS into my computer, still no video signal.

So in conclusion my video card is not working in my system but working in my friends system. The only thing I can think of is that my motherboard is incompatible with my video card, but I couldn't find anything online to prove my theory. Do you guys have any ideas? Should I just get a new video card or try a different motherboard?

You 100% sure you plugged in the power cables for both the graphics card and motherboard? And the 4-pin extra power cable to motherboard, not just the 24pin?

Does the motherboard give any beep error codes when booting? Usually you can that way diagnose which part is failing. Can't be sure in your case what is exactly wrong, except that the graphics card works fine. Could be problem with RAM, CPU or motherboard. Once you're sure all cables are plugged in, doublecheck RAM sticks are in right sockets and try with just one RAM stick only.

    Trolling should be.

I plugged in the 8-pin extra power cable in the top left, I also plugged in the 2x 6-pin connectors to the video card itself. I also just tested another video card in my computer and it did not work either. There are no beeps, tho I'm not sure the motherboard has a speaker, I'll double check the packaging. I'm using 4 sticks of RAM, I'll try with just one however and let you know.

Just wondering, what CPU are you running? Have you also tried the other PCI-Express slots?

Have you tried resetting the CMOS as well? It won't hurt to give it a try - here's a video guide on how to do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdHH9KrceR0

I'm using an Intel i5 2500k, the motherboard features a CMOS reset switch which I have used, I haven't tried to manually reset the CMOS. I have also tried both PCI x16 3.0 slots. Upon reading more into the book that came with the motherboard I found the board has something called Dr.Debug, which displays a set of 2 digits or numbers, the set displayed on mine is D6, which according to the book means "No Console Output devices are found". I can only speculate that it means its not reading any video output.

I do believe that I have figured it out! My video card uses PCI x16 2.0, but I am using a PCI x16 3.0. Unfortunately the PCI 2.0 slot on my motherboard is unusable because of how low it sits on the board. Looks like I'll be getting a new video card. Can anyone confirm this before I spend $200+?

They work, that's not the issue, though a pci-e slot could be defective.

Try turning it on with on-board video.

    There is no on-board video.

Sounds like a RAM issue, maybe your ram isn't compatible with your motherboard.
    i5 3570k
    WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD
    16GB DDR3 1600 Ram
    Gigabyte GTX 670
    OCZ 120GB Agility 3 SSD

How do I check that? I don't have any other RAM to use.

Edit: Found the QVL list, looking through it now.
Edit: No, it does not appear my RAM is on the QVL list, so I suppose this means I have to buy new RAM.

So I tried a set of RAM I had laying around, same thing. It isn't on the QVL list either, but I though I'd give it a shot. The odd thing is, when I boot with no ram the Dr.Debug gives me the error code 53, which is no usable RAM is found. But with either of the RAM sets I have it gives me the error code I mentioned earlier D6, "No Console Output devices are found."[COLOR="red"]

Have you tried just one DIMM? In any slot, but A1 preferrably?
    Did you use motherboard stand-offs?

(and also, it's voilà, not whalah. It's French and roughly means, "And there it is"/"behold")

Try booting with 1 stick of ram at a time, sounds like a ram issue to me.

I've tried several sticks of RAM in each socket, A1, A2, B1, B2. All the same results.
    Yes, I did use standoffs.

    Sorry for the misspelling.

This is being excessive but how about trying your ram in your friends computer? Also, what Bios version are you running? It seems like some are getting D6 errors on version 3.03. It is intended for Ivy Bridge CPUs but your board could be released with it. When building my system a while back my ASRock Extreme 3 Z68 board was DOA with no video output either but it was Dr. DeBug error A3. Had to RMA it. It seems that when ASRock boards are working they work well but they have quality control issues.

Im guessing you transplanted your 2500k to the new motherboard. Even though its highly unlikely, have you checked for bent pins on the CPU as it controls the PCI-E lanes? But I'd bet 99.9% that the board is bad and the CPU is just fine.

with the 2500k your PCIe lanes will default to 2.0 unless you have a third party 3.0 controller, (but i think those are only on the x79s)

given that you have tried at least two video cards, you can rule out your GPU being bad, and your memory seems fine, this leads to your MB, it may be a BIOS issue, or it may be a hardware issue, by Intel spec the z77 boards are backwards compatible with SB CPUs, so if they are not supporting them then they are outside of spec, but i would return it and get a different board, Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI all make good boards

Thanks guys, Look's like I'll have to figure out how to get a new board. I was reluctant to do anything with the CPU because I didn't want to have to tear apart the heatsink.

Yeah, the mobo has got to be faulty after ticking through almost everything on the checklist, bad luck.

On a sidenote, and I am not implying on anything, I was just wondering who or what got you into getting that motherboard?

It was a suggestion by my friend. The board seemed awesome and looked like it would work fine. Just bad luck I think. I got a refund from Amazon, got a suggestion for a board? I have $140 to spend.

I'd recommend either these two boards:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131837
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128546

The new Z77 chipset will support your i5-2500k without a problem, so don't worry about that.

Thanks, I think I'm going to get the ASUS board, I was eyeing it earlier.
