Honestly, Borderlands is the only Gearbox game I've played.
I also hated it, it's one of the worst games I've ever played. I'm also surprised that it is popular, I'm even more surprised at how much I despise it despite that fact. I mean, even if someone doesn't like something, but other people do, it usually has some redeeming quality about it.
I don't know how people can like a game where you shoot something in the face with a shotgun and it takes very little damage. I was also greatly irritated by the fact that the game has sniper rifles, but the moment you fire your weapon, whether the round hit or not, every enemy in the vicinity knows exactly where you are.
I don't even think that I had the ability to cook grenades.
I mean, I'm not asking for Skyrim (here i am referencing the ridiculous stealth combat found in skyrim) here, but my general feeling of the game is pretty negative aside from it's unique art style. It's just difficult for me to believe that it's actually from this generation. It's like something I'd expect from an N64 or the 4chan Chris Dorner game.
But you know, to be fair, a lot of games receive harsh criticism.
For example, I have enjoyed many of the installments of the Devil May Cry series. Doesn't matter which of the games you are playing, there is always going to be some kind of ability that you will have trouble performing. It's one of those games, that when a controller you can use with your brain is invented, will just be a lot more fun to play.
Tales Studio came out with Tales of Vesperia a few years ago. Great looking game, great voice actors, a wonderful assortment of techniques. That's the good part. The bad part, is the part that actually matters: Backstep was raped, AI somehow became worse. I mean, your AI allies are always doing something stupid, but this was not ordinary. At least in past games I could get Combo Master titles without the assistance of another human.
Final Fantasy: Dissidia was a game that a lot of fans were pumped for, I was very excited about it. The game does have a unique and innovative combat system, but dodge is just too overpowered, there is no limit on it and you can continuously do it.
Final Fantasy XIII... The game got a lot of negative reviews, and rightly so. Some of you weathered the storm and made it through the first 20 hours of watching porn and furiously masturbating instead of actually playing the game. I wish that I had the perseverance that you do, because I tried to play the game again last week (from the beginning, since my waves were wiped) and decided within the course of half an hour that I would never play the game again.
I don't really have an amazing reason to hate the game, but I do. It's one of the only games I have no problem openly expressing my opinion as fact, that it is a fucking terrible game.
Which is really quite unfortunate, because many people feel similar, and this has greatly effected the sales of the game's sequel, which was a far superior and much more enjoyable game.
Far Cry 3. Jason Brody is a douche. Like, really, I don't think that I've ever hated a main character of a game. I mean, I really didn't like Luke Fon Fabre, but at least he had some redeeming qualities, like being the overpowered main character. But Jason Brody? Jason Brody is, without a shadow of doubt, the douchiest main character cast in any game or movie ever.
I'll put it this way: Ben Stiller as Greenberg is a more likeable character than Jason Brody.
Jason survives his encounter with South American pirates, acquires the Tatau, becomes a Warrior, takes an entire region by storm, luckiest son of a bitch character I've ever played. Dante would be a shoe-in for first place if he wasn't so ridiculous.
The game was amazing fun. But when you step back and look at why Jason Brody is here, why he did what he's done, and why he is doing what he is... You have to ask; what the fuck, man? As soon as you get up and running ERMGHERD ERMGHERD MY FRIENDS I HAVE TO SAVE THEM!
And you do! You go through so much ridiculous shit to save them! But there is absolutely no connection to the characters at all! His girlfriend is always in desperate need of his consolation and he does nothing but blow her off, the only thing that even suggests that she is his girlfriend, is the way she talks to him. He treats her like she's some bitch he just slept with once, or a distant relative or something.
It's like, you want a game without harsh critic? play a party game like Guitar Hero, Marioparty, Mariokart or Super Smash Bros. Even then, I am sure that there is some raging mongoloid that criticizes those games.

In terms of bad games (bugheavy) along with horrendeous customer support nothing can compete with EA.
Don't be so daft.
The comment wasn't directed towards the criticism one game gets. The comment was directed towards the gaming community as a whole. They ARE repulsively fickle, bitchy and whiny, and they are horrible notorious for talking nothing but shit about a game that simply doesn't reach that players unrealistic expectations for perfection.
Like the herds of morons giving Diablo III and Mists of Pandaria zeros on meta critic.
This isn't just about one game.
Im gonna go on record and say AvP2010 is better made then A:CM.
Better story, DX11 support and more polished and the multiplayer is pretty good.
"Would you please let me join your p-p-party?
As bad as that game is I agree with you.
AVP 2 - is still better than both! - Just realised the ending for all 3 games the prime "antagonist" was an android. The director/scientist guy in avp2 was an android, Mr Weyland in both AVP 2010 and ACM was an android only to be revealed the real one is still out there......
fuck.

Calling out Gearbox for polishing two turds that they had little involvement in but still put their name on and praised to the high heavens (and allegedly squandered funding away from) is justified.
Calling out an entire community for being fickle is not only a broad generalization (which can be applied to any community) but also out of place in such a topic.
There's a problem with your statement: These games (Aliens:CM and Duke NF) don't live up to the base-line average that we, as consumers deserve. Neither required a Herculean amount of time and effort, they didn't have to be triple A games. They just had to be above average, good even. People would've fully accepted if either game had been worthy of 70~80% scores. But both games are abysmal.
The games were released in visibly uncompleted states, notably lacking a majority of key features in shooters, with actual, broken AI/scripting, buggy design, etc etc. This isn't some people raging over MoP or Diablo 3 because they didn't meet expectations bar none, this is people that are pissed off that they had genuinely terrible games delivered, which were waved around like triple A titles.
The two aren't in the same league. Anger over DNF and A:CM is justified, even casual FPS players know they're bad games and everyone can just see the amount of potential that both titles had, if someone had actually taken an ounce of care in producing them. Sega could've given A:CM to Rebellion or any other studio out there and we would've gotten at least an average to good game. Instead we got shit on a plate, which we were told that it took years to make and was delicious because of the amount of effort the chef claimed he'd put in.
Yeah, compared to some studios we've seen. <cough>Sigil<cough> Gearbox isn't that bad. Great? Of course not. But not that bad.
Sir Robin, the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot.
Who had nearly fought the Dragon of Angnor.
Who had almost stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol.
And who had personally wet himself, at the Battle of Badon Hill.
Worst developer at the moment? No, but they are starting to play in the same league though.

I wouldn't call them the worst developers in the gaming industry. Aliens: Colonial Marines couldn't have been THAT bad of a game. From what I've seen and heard, most of it's problems come from how many bugs there are, the length of the story and the characters. Multiplayer seems to be good and looks like fun. Plus, Gearbox made the Borderlands games and they are pretty damn good. One major disappointment they made was Duke Nukem Forever as many know. You ever have those moments where you say to yourself "man i should've waited to buy this game...damn it!" well, buying Duke Nukem Forever Balls of Steel Edition on day 1 was that moment. Ugh just thinking about how much money I wasted on that game still pisses me off till this day. I just bought into the hype. That was probably my biggest disappointment from them but even that wasn't that bad as people say. People are so fixed on saying stuff like "this is 2013 I don't want a PS2 looking game". If you're a TRUE gamer you can look past at all the problems and still find some fun out of it, graphics and all. Not once have I quit a game over it's graphics or how poorly the voice acting is done or how much the gameplay looks like a PS2 game. I find fun in all games.

Plot holes by the truck load (Hadley's hope should be a smoking hole in the ground!). Characters no one gives a flying fuck about (combine shitty animations, obstructive AI and writing that see-saws back and forth between dumb and insulting and you have allies who I WANT to see eaten by aliens). The actual aliens are sidelined early and often in favor of human mercenaries (welcome to Call of Duty: Weyland Yutani!). Insulting attempts at retconning established lore (the return of Hicks is one thing, but alien cancer? ALIEN CANCER?! Not only is that stupid on its face but it is completely unneccessary as it was being used to make an impregnated marine's fate look hopeless which could have been achieved by there being no medical personnel available (like, I dunno, maybe some fucking ALIENS got to them!) or just having the chestburster emerge before they get to the med bay rather than mere seconds after they are told she's a goner). Power loader controls are shit (yeah, lets take one of the most awesome sequences from the film and animate it so poorly you can't tell if you're actually hurting anything!).
But hey, I'm sure that it's not THAT bad! </sarcasm>
Good multiplayer doesn't save a shit game. Fun fact: There's tons of people who don't give a flying fuck about multiplayer and want Gearbox to tell them where the awesome game we were promised (and shown a while ago) went.
I like parentheses!
Thank you.
The "alien cancer" was a stupid stupid thing. What purpose did it serve? To kill a host would no doubt die anyway? In Alien 4 we got shown one being removed with no issues.
Hicks being brought back was a mixed bag for me. On one hand GREAT he was supposed to be in alien 3 but they basically screwed him over. On the other hand do we disregard alien 3 cannon or alter it? They chose to alter it but then fucking JAZZ HAND WAVED the issue. Oh how did you end up not being dead and here unlike what the report says? Errr thats a long story Jazz hand wave! fucking lazy.
The sulaco, why was it used as an alien breeding ground? There was only 1 face hugger that had two eggs or two face huggers total on board. The power loader was another disappointing aspect of the game. Combine that with the fact we barely saw much of the origin ship or any explanation of what it was. It was also never explained why the colony was not entirely destroyed. The film pretty much shows the place being turned to ash.
If they included hicks they could have done a flash back sequence showing the "last stand" as seen in the films (maybe with the initial encounter with the aliens too!) then showing a forwarded cut scene where he gets abducted by weyu. Also I would have LOVED to not see a single weyu involved mission until the later half of the campaign. They could have had a few levels with just the marines and weyu then something goes wrong and the aliens making a storming come back and give us so much needed terror.
I gotta agree with you here.
Take Bioware for instance. People claim that they are terrible because of some of the latest games they've released.
But lets look at their history:
NVN
Balder's Gate
Dragon Age Origins
KOTOR
These are all very solid games. None were short or disappointing games. KOTOR i've spent over 100 hours playing, Same with Dragon Age. and same with NVN. Each of these games I have multiple characters on.
So to say Bioware sucks isn't fair. Just because Dragon Age 2 wasn't great, and the Mass Effect story did not end the way you liked, doesn't mean the company is terrible. They made a few mistakes, but are still one of the best developers imo.
