To all the old school players...

To all the "old school" players who, like me, have been around for over 5 years and never even took a break from the game. Are you feeling bored, or is it just me? I don't feel like I'm still playing because I like it, but because no other game is living up to my expectations anymore. Over the years, this game has got me used to very high standards of quality and I can't seem to appreciate any other game anymore. I've tried all the alleged "WoW-killers" MMOGs and in the end I would always feel like "Wtf, that shit sucks as hell", and now I'm afraid I'll be stuck with this game forever, stagnating and waking up everyday thinking how, as usual, I'm going to waste a couple additional hours on a game I don't even enjoy playing that much anymore. Am I the only one feeling that Blizzard got us badly addicted to their games by reaching high standards that they pertinently know no other gaming company will ever reach ? Seriously, it's been too long, and I'd like to leave for something else, but can't.

it's possible just terminate your freeze your account and give it to someone your not really close to but you know that plays. and then try to spend the time you did with wow with something else that's more productive or just as fun as wow was.

or you can just wait till cata and it will probably get very fun then since the game is totally changing
"Didn't we have some fun...though? Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and I said 'Goodbye' and you were like 'No way' and then I was all 'We pretended we were going to murder you'......that was great"

We can just hope that it will be a 100% different approach than Wotlk was.

I agree. I still play because I love MMOs(aka have nothing better to do) and nothing is better than WoW at the moment, though it can be very boring.

Im have high hopes for several upcoming games, but I still expect failure in the back of my mind. lol

-I don't care what the next expansion is about, as long as the story is dark and rich so I can refer to it as Chocolate WoW.

I started playing early Bc so but had a 60 twink which I played and still play from time to time, Though I never experienced true Vanilla, I see what you're saying but the fact is I don't understand how you can't stop playing if you are as bored with it. Delete it from your computer *Lose Disks* see how long you can go before you need to re-Install or even if you find you can function w/out it.

I doubt this. I had huge hopes regarding the arriving of WOTLK, but to me it seems that this game just died when BC came out. And no matter how hard Blizzard try, things will never be the same than they were back in the vanilla time.

Don't play any game then?... Real life is fun too, you know? And spending ALL your time on it is fun too.

Only been here for around 4years?

    Yep... Hate alts.

    4x80´s "old main server" 6x 30-50lvl.
    2x80´s "new server" 1x70, 1x40.
1x39 and leveling to 80 "new server".

You can tell how bored AND no luck in other games I´ve had.

    I really, really hate alts.

And those alts were created in Wotlk >.< .

And had break at the beginning of ToC - ICC. Tried Aion... Nice feeling at the start... Then I discovered it´s shit.

Hmmm... And tell me what´s so "special" with "real life"?

Everything is connected with emmotions... Brain... Same emmotions can be experienced from a "virtual world".

It's not the lack of content, it's the lack of challenge that has destroyed the game for me. I didn't really take "breaks" more like protested while the game was unsatisfactory. I had to bail mid expansion because of how bad they made wrath of the lich king, the game has become something else than what it once was. It's not a world to get lost in anymore, it's a world to lose the contents of your wallet in.

played since eu launch, still enjoy playing today. the people make it what it is for me. i play the game with my friends to spend time with them enjoying the same that they enjoy.

Agree on this... You can partially blame this over the fact that the game has existed for longer now, but you can also blame it on the choices Blizzard has made over time. First of all, making the game easier and more "accessible" was their biggest mistake, imo. Why did they even stop making 40-man raids? Back then, raids were actually something of a challenge. Things should have remained hard, maybe we wouldn't be feeling bored right now.

When you put it like that, what's the point in telling you at this point?

I haven't gotten bored of it (joined around patch 1.6). Well, except now, because no one will ever do anything other than Icecrown Citadel (BIG mistake on Blizzard's part setting up progression this way). Everything will be back up to speed in Cataclysm though so I'm waiting it out.
    God; I hate you people.

    Myeah maybe...

It´s really no difference, maybe real world have more physical contact with you. And that is something you like.

Wish I could controll my own electric impulses damnit... Or something.

    Edit:

Myeah, and this "virtual" thing is quite new. So it´ll take time before it´s as popular as hammering in the bar.

Yeah I kind of know what you mean. In Vanilla everything excited me. I mean everything. Getting lost in the Barrens as my NE hunter, running up to the top of the mountains and using eagle eye on crossroads was immensely impressive =P Running a dungeon like UBRS, or SM back in the day was difficult and was satisfying in the extreme. I don't feel so excited about simple things like that anymore but then I was 13 or 14 back then =P

It feels like you have to do too many repetitive things now. Daily bg, Daily heroic, rotations to max dps / healing / tanking that actually encourage you to play repetitively. That's not fun. The idea of getting badges by doing endless dungeons or raids for gear is also pretty boring, despite being fair.

I think the game has got too easy. I was a Prot paladin in Vanilla and TBC, still am in WotLK but in Vanilla and TBC it was fun. You had to think about your gear, balancing spell power, survival, avoidance, etc, while using only the moves that you need to because you could run out of mana. Now you just spam a few moves over and over again. Think of how amazing moves like avengers shield looked when we used spell power, now look at what we get for using strength, hammer of the righteous and shield of the righteous that have practically no graphic. Boring.
Healers don't have to think, they just use their best heal over and over again without going oom, and dps use the same spells over and over again to maximise their dps. It's stagnant.

However. I have started to enjoy the music of the game more, the lore, the art, the collecting of mounts and pets, the fun achievements, the exploration, though not as amusing as it was is still fun, just to run around. The combat and fighting content of the game is not as good but that is being fixed in cataclysm, and is still at least enjoyable in WotLK if not incredible.

I took a break at the end of TBC, about the time Sunwell came out, and didn't get back till Ulduar had just been released, mainly because of exams and holidays abroad. I did miss wow but really I had a lot of fun doing other things. Other games, travelling, teaching myself to draw which I do all the time now, as well as spending more time with my friends than I did. (No I wasn't a loner, but I could have spent more time with more people overall =P)

Taking a break now until Cataclysm, have been off the game for a couple of weeks, and yeah I do find myself wanting to play it but hey, there are so many other things to do. If you want recommendations, try doing something artistic - sketching and painting are so much fun - you could try doing wow related stuff ^.^

I honestly don't play much anymore. Not that I played all the time back in the day either, but...I kind of had to play more, since a lot of things were much more of a challenge.

These days I'm busier, though, so perhaps a more casual game suits me better? In any case, I do find myself being bored with it, though the idea of Cataclysm excites me. I suppose I'm just hopeful that they'll fix a lot of what Wrath messed up, and improve things I never really liked about the game in the first place.

I do feel you on the whole "no other game lives up to it," OP. I dabble a bit in different games here and there, because my friends are all "gamer" types. Nothing feels the same, though. Even when it's boring, I guess WoW just has more...options, than many other games, for lack of a better way to say it.

Started playing November 05, and I got bored/sick of the game early in WotlK. Quit for a couple of months, and came back but didn't really play seriously until this summer. The game was fresh for a while, but now it is boring again lol, probably because most people I know are taking breaks/quit...The people you play with are really what make or break this, if you have lots of friends online still playing, then you have things to do and what not, but you don't and you've done all the content etc then it can be quite boring.

I couldn't agree more on what you guys just wrote. I realize how much I should blame on time the fact that some things don't seem as funny anymore. But you also can and HAVE to blame it over the fact that Blizzard isn't making its game evolve in the right way. As a gamer, I have tried pretty much everything to "re-ignite" the flame of the game inside of me, but the problem is that, as time goes by, Blizzard seems to be focusing only on certain targetted parts of the game, thus encouraging us to always repeatedly play the same stuff. I hope this will change by the time Cataclysm comes out.
