I wish SWTOR was free to play!!!

Hey guys, am I the only one who thinks star wars should be a one time pay?
    Here are my reasons:
    1. First, its easier for kids who don't have credit cards and their parents are iffy on paying online
    2. Second, I hate having to spend all my money that I get on swtor. Its fun and all but sometimes i like a good old game of lol or mass effect
    3. Third, EA STOP BEING MONEY HUNGRY BUTTFACES!!
If you have anything else to add or want to just support this idea then comment
I'm new to this so if there is already a post plz tell me

First, a "one time pay" is called Buy to Play, not Free to Play. Now to your concerns.

    1. They sell subscription cards at your average retailer (Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, etc.) I'm sure it won't be long before Cartel Coin cards come out. So paying online isn't mandatory. Also, if there are people still out there that are iffy about putting their information online, they are stupid. My mother is that way and I've told her how stupid it is on more than 1 occasion.

    2. What makes you think you have to spend all of your money on TOR? That's your choice and not a demand. Also, LoL is completely free. It's not like you can't continue to play LoL while spending all the money in the world on something else.

    3. EA will never stop being "money hungry buttfaces", but I will concur that it would be nice if they did.

Keep in mind, you can get a lot of the unlocks of the GTN. So... Don't throw money away on things like "hide helm" when you can get them for video game money.
    (Warframe) - Dragon & Typhoon-
(Neverwinter) - Trickster Rogue & Guardian Fighter -

I wish other MMO featuring panda for example had a similar model, i could at least play some.

If it was pay-once, then you wouldn't see any new content, bugfixes and stuff like that, since no continous money flow means they run out of budget for fixing the game after the initial sales go down.

Servers cost money too, so the game wouldn't even be running at all after a while, if they had no subscription fees. It has nothing to do with being money hungry really. Sure they could maybe lower it a bit, but then you get less spent on maintenance and new content again.

i don't remember what happened since may exactly.
I think you may have known denova from 1.2 but i am not sure about the rest.
Population is stable, 200-300 on fleet on my server, on prime time, you can get PUG for operation or join a guild.
A server wide LFG system is in place for the flashpoint and some operation.
And a few more daily quest hub, though admitedly, the new one are better than the old ilum/belsavis, more interesting.
Gameplay i a bit more polish but globally the same.

That being said, in a few week every class will be revamp and fleshed out, they seems to combat the "ability bloating" getting rid of ability usable on stun target or so.
new level, new talent, new ability.
Also a new operation with 7 boss, it feels they are getting the hang of it. Denova was 4 boss, asation 5, and now the new one 7, along with the nightmare difficulty of asation, content is getting streamline, it's a good time to come back indeed.

Unless you're on an APAC server, this is only partially true. In reality, it's 200-300 per instance. Usually there's 2-3 instances of 200-300 during peak. So more like 600-900 people on the fleet.

possible, often, i only check the number on top of the screen, i don't check how many instances of the fleet there is.
Point is, it is nicely populated.

I think he's talking about a B2P model a la GW1/2 and TSW. That kind of model works.

This game is terrible, nothing but headdesk, headdesk, headdesk. You should definitely go back to GW2. Everyone else, though, should try SWTOR. It's pretty awesomesauce right now.

This is completely false. There are several games running as B2P and even completely F2P right now. GW2, Tera, and TSW being prime examples. Time will tell how successful Tera and TSW are, since they have recently transitioned, but the Guild Wars franchise has been running on the B2P model for years and it works fine apparently.

The guild wars format could never apply to swtor without wrecking the entire game. You can quite literally buy the best gear in GW...

Technically SWTOR isn't either buy to play or free to play because not only do you need to purchase the game but you have a ton of restrictions and therefore cannot experience the game the same way as a suscriber. I would call "free to play" SWTOR a buy to play demo.

Not sure how this is relevant for a lot of reasons that don't need to be gone over in the SWTOR subforum. B2P and F2P are very capable of giving content updates and fixing bugs, which was the original ridiculous claim I was disputing.

That has no relevancy to the payment model.

Erm...not really? You can buy Karma boosts to make the grind for that gear lower, but if you want dungeon gear you still need to run the dungeons. If you want the ascended gear for the fractals dungeons, you have to run those.

So no, you can't buy the best gear in the game from the cash shop.

Think he means that if you pay for gems, you can convert to gold and buy Exotics from TP , which for most slots bar the acessories/backpiece/amulet/rings is the best gear available.
