What is Streaming?...

So like is "steaming" just playing videos from online or does it have to be live? I've noticed some devices cannot play online videos and I wanted to get something cheap that I could use a VGA and stick to the back of my TV that would be able to play online videos like anime and etc. I've looked at the Raspberry Pi and Apple Tv but Idk if they would be able to do the job... I'm not good at building computers and usually end up breaking them so I would have to get it built by NCIX and the cheapest I could find was a $315 Build that I think would be good tho, Anyone got any ideas? I've noticed that my phone can't even play these videos and that when I go to the website and hit play it starts to download the video which can take pretty long :/

Also just poke around Twitch and you'll get a pretty good idea of streaming probably, it's just people showing their gameplay online, usually it's live but you can watch their old streams.

Streaming is playing videos without downloading them entirely. It really depends where you want to stream your videos from, in terms of what kind of device you'd need to do that. Roku makes some sweet boxes that can stream from netflix and hulu and crunchyroll. If you're looking to stream from, ahem, illicit sites, you'll need to build a mediapc.

I don't have any experience trying to stream videos, but your internet connection (and making sure it's not terrible) would be just as important as the device you're trying to use, right?

Live Game Streaming needs to come up with a better word. One that isn't so generic, because when I think of streaming, I think of Netflix, Stitcher, Amazon Prime, Youtube, etc.

Streaming is just "streaming" or showing your feed to viewers usually where people automatically join chatrooms if they have a registered account and can interact with the streamer and the people viewing, what you choose to display on the screen and yes its live although you can get VoDs of streamed content. Memes like copypasterino and Darude - Sandstorm originated on Twitch. Livestreaming can be anything really, games, illegal movies, life streams, anything you fancy. This of course is in the context of YOU streaming content but you can stream movies FROM platforms like netflix which is a different area than livestreaming.

I primarily use Twitch to watch gaming tournaments. SC2, NS2, CS, Quake and DOTA2 primarily. Just as TV is the platform for sports, Twitch/Streaming is the platform for esports or competitive gaming and twitch is growing fast. I started using it in 2009 (known as jtv then) and the highest viewed channel had 500 viewers, now the highest I've seen is 500,000 and concurrent across all games, in the millions. Blizzcon 2013 had 300k viewers, LoL gets easily 400k for their big tournaments, DOTA2 TI got over 500k at one point. Many tournaments have multiple games like this and multiple streams running so its easy to see how important streaming is to getting tournament viewership which is why its such a popular platform right now.

I'll watch some streamers like Lirik, Preach and MvGame but I'm not particularly interested in the game, just the streamer at that point.

While I certainly wouldn't call her a slut of a whore, you can share gameplay and give tips and such without a webcam. If I were trying to avoid attention I wouldn't include a webcam image of myself.
