Commercial calls for children to steal their parents guns and take them to school

A startling new anti-gun ad released by a San Francisco-based production company encourages children to commit a series of crimes by stealing their parents’ guns and turning them over to school officials, The Daily Caller reported Monday.

Sleeper 13 Productions released the controversial video on Dec. 13. It shows a pouty, young boy wandering into his parents’ bedroom, stealing a handgun out of their dresser drawer and then shoving it into his backpack.

The boy then carries what is presumably a loaded weapon into his classroom. After class, he approaches the teacher, takes the gun out of his backpack and slams it onto her desk.

I'm pretty sure this is one of the most careless and stupid things you can encourage a kid to do. What do you guys think about this?

    Here's the commercial:

It's about as careless and stupid as keeping a loaded gun in your dresser drawer where a child can just walk in and take it (which seems to be the very point of the advert).

And where exactly is this "encouraging children to steal guns?"

When was the last time you saw commercials advocating that people do this?

I'm not sure, but I think part of the idea is that "If you CAN do this" As in, if its possible, "You SHOULD do this". Imply that if it is that easy for a child to get ahold of a gun (unlocked dresser, loaded), then the parents forfeit their right to own it.

    So they are going to:

    1. Steal a firearm
    2. Conceal and transport it through public locations without a permit
    3. Illegally walk around a school with them
    4. Hand over property that isnt theirs to someone not qualified to receive them

    This couldnt possibly go wrong.

Yeah give it to school officials instead of police or some other relevant authority.

It's pretty poorly written, but the point is very clearly meant to be that guns are bad, your children can get at them, your house and family are unsafe, and will somebody please think of the children.

The ad is not aimed at kids, it's aimed at parents. It's saying "your guns make your children feel unsafe, so get rid of them".

It's a pretty shit ad to be honest.

Im baffled at this point. I assume its a state to state basis but shouldn't Americans just collectively agree that gun violence is a natural feature of living in America?
Besides this commercial is beyond ridiciolous... yeah sure give it to a teacher at school, they're bound to be perfectly competent in handling such situation.

So this ad starts with a kid stealing a gun and bringing it in to school, leading the audience to think that this is leading up to some kind of horrific school massacre. Then the twist is that the kid brought it in because the gun made him feel unsafe. I thought it was pretty obvious that's the point of the ad.

You'd honestly have to be pretty stupid to interpret that as "hey kids steal your parent's guns and bring them to school".

Pulling out a loaded gun in the presence of police officers is like suicide these days

Why? My brother and sister never once hurt themselves or anyone else with the numerous firearms my dad had in his closet, not locked up. Another fool advocating hiding your gun so that even you cannot get to it when you need it. Nothing like fumbling around a lock while your family is getting murdered.

I would not classify a son or daughter taking something from their parents as 'stealing'. More of a displacement of goods.

"I don't feel safe with a gun in my house"

this is about the most ass backwards statement I've ever heard

Well, hypothetically, if you are a child in a household which owns guns, and you feel unsafe with those guns around, this ad could probably get the gears turning. It might be a stupid interpretation, but kids are even stupiderer.
If you are particularly bold, you could use a Shiny Ditto. Do keep in mind though, this will infuriate your opponents due to Ditto's beauty. Please do not use Shiny Ditto. You have been warned.

You are more likely to kill yourself with it.

So some schlub that thinks guns should be gone all together decides to target impressionable children to take their parents' legally purchased guns away...

This is how I am interpreting this "commercial"

If you own a gun you are probably more likely to kill yourself with it over some other method, but I don't think owning a gun increases your chances of attempting to commit suicide (baring people who bought a gun specifically for that reason).
