I don't think it's that an entirely separate group of people roam at night, I think it's
more that night makes people different, especially if they're stressed or tired. People
generally are also a bit more... paranoid, I guess you could say, at night. It's built-in
to a degree. (But as with anything people's levels of paranoia vary.)

Though, there are also the actual full-blown weirdos that come out at night too.
Perhaps it's because they're off 'work' or they like the emptiness. Or there's the
whole darkness = easier to do bad stuff in thing... also drinking.

Really? I play Basketball in a public park at 1AM everyday and I actually don't run into people that often. Maybe I'm just a weirdo in a city full of normal people.

I've answered 911 and dispatched police/fire/ems to wierdos for 17 years. They come out at all times of day. There are just different types of weirdos at different times. In my experience the outright nuts are more frequent in the daytime hours while the people who just seem to be a little "off" are all over the place at night.
