To be completely honest I find it incredibly annoying and rude when people do exactly what they did. I don’t think they deserve jail time of course, that’s just a waste of money. They were told not to do it. The first person did it and was escorted out. Another did it and was also escorted, then a 3rd and finally a 4th. You would think after the first person was forced to leave the crowd would have taken a hint? It’s an attitude of ‘I can do what I want, it’s my right, screw everyone around me’. It’s rude and it’s disruptive, they deserved to be removed. I have a feeling the school is just fed up and putting their foot down to make a point

Oh look more of U.S. Citizens tax money being wasted on arresting people for idiotic shit. They got kicked out that should be the end of it, need to start a movement on social media and call it #CountryRunByRetards.

what school is so joyless as to throw people in jail for cheering? it's a waste of taxpayer money and time and the superintendent should be fired.

    Exactly what I thought.
Don't play by the "rules" get kicked out.
    No problem.
Last I checked what they did is not a law anywhere...so jail, bond and court ?

Hmm..I smell a suit waiting to happen

i wonder if they could punitively sue the superintendent himself for inflicting emotional duress or some other similiar civil charge.

Escort them off the premises, fine, I don't see what charging them achieves.

No it wouldn't. First off the speaker system would, assuming they aren't cheap and don't use one, would be loud enough to be heard even with a small 2-10 people family cheering. Secondly, the time it takes to walk from one side of the stage, grab the diploma, then walk to the other side would be long enough for the family to give a small cheer. No need for pauses. Now if they continue to scream into the next persons introduction then I could see a problem.

And the "no reason to celebrate at that time" is ridiculous. This ceremony is supposed to be for the students who graduated, not for some petty control freaks who want to orchestrate an entire evening so people can feel at the right time.

My college graduation had a "Hold your applause" rule as well.

Thanks for the laugh, yeah I want to go to a concert style graduation where I can't hear when I get out. How hard is it to STFU for a few min while they hand out diplomas?

Oh, bull. They call your name. You cross the stage, shake the presenter's hand, grab the diploma in a dainty little choreographed piece of nonsense, then walk off the opposite side before they call the next student. Nobody missed their kids name being called because a parent yelled out their child's name when it was called.

I find this casual usage of the word triggered offensive as it trivializes the real issues of PTSD suffered by people who actually have it. As opposed to these tumblrettes using it to refer to any time they don't like something.
"Gamer" is not a bad word. I identify as a gamer. When calling out those who persecute and harass, the word you're looking for is "asshole." @_DonAdams

So where the speakers at the last ceremony you attended just barely loud enough to hear? The last one I went to was in an auditorium and they were loud enough to hear over a few people cheering. And at my ceremony we had it at the football stadium so you could easily hear the names being called out.

And it isn't like they are cheering the entire time during the ceremony. It's for those few seconds when their child walks across and grabs the diploma. How hard is it for you to let them enjoy that moment? When the person you know walks across then be as quiet as you want to, but other people want to cheer for their person.

We should just give them the death sentence!

They should be permitted to sue the school for all damages, wrongful doing and emotional distress.
Sue the school because they couldn't follow the guidelines of the ceremony? This went too far but they are the ones that started that ball rolling.

Not from high school, that is barely a note worthy event. If it is such a big deal that people want to go crazy at it, I imagine the family of the person walked next wanted to hear their child's name also. When you are in public settings things aren't only about what you want.

It was in a gym and everything echoed, so no you couldn't hear and it was pissing me off, one family that cheered loud next to us, I didn't even have to say anything because someone said to them "Did you not get the memo?" made my day.
