have to say that this is pretty shity and apparantly a common issue that people have. I always see people shitting on origin but at least you dont have to deal with this with them. I know i sure as fuck wouldnt be able to come up with my original HL and CS cd key.

Valve do a lot of things right but their customer service is among the worst I've ever experienced. I'm probably among the biggest Valve fanboys in the world but this is pretty dumb.

Totally agree, love Valve myself, pretty much every game I have is on Steam but their customer support is probably the worse customer support I've ever seen (that's including EA, Ubisoft customer supports)

To bad the guy in that situation let someone else use his email address for a second steam account and it was 100% his fault that this situation happened...
    You're a towel.

Yeh so demanding a 12+ year old cd key is totally the proper way to handle that situation eh. While your at it why dont you go find a receipt from you buying pokemon red back in 1999 or all your gaming handhelds are forfeit. See how that works?

Well that's not nice. Have to say that Valve does many things right though, like their rather new automated refund system. Greenlight could use some work.

    Wow.
Even for Valve, that is total BS.

That is really stupid but I'd still prefer this service over using Origin or giving EA money lol

Good thing he made it public as fuck so he'll probably get the account back because yay PR.

Steam support is unfortunately notoriously terrible - and it's frustrating, because Valve does take quite a chunk of the % from the developers and part of that should definitely be going towards customer service, yet Valve has one of the worst CS in gaming.

However, in this exact situation, he really should have included in the OP the information that his girlfriends 10 year old brother created a steam account using his email address (he would have had to verify the email, no? and if a kid can create a steam account, he can create a free gmail account...) and that the account was closed because someone else has claimed ownership of it as well. He should also have included that this is not the first time they closed his account - it seems like this is a much more complicated situation than simply recovering an account after a hack.

He claims he didn't know about this duplicate account, and then says "Unknowingly I had also gifted a game or two here and there but not in a while and definitely not this year." How do you unknowingly gift a game to your "sisters brothers" duplicate account that you didn't even know existed? If he didn't include all this information in his original post, what else is he hiding at this point? He's trying to paint a picture that's positive for him and people are going to judge it based on that one screenshot which gives none of the background info.

Seems a little dodgy to me - if I was taking a guess I'd say that he account shared with someone and there are purchases from multiple credit cards on it but I'm just guessing. Retrieving a hacked steam account is not usually this complicated, but he is right in that steam's CS is sub-par and something they really need to work on.

Probably gonna keep sucking until either someone takes it to court or there is enough market pressure to change (like with the refunds).

I meant unknowingly as in I was unaware I was gifting to a Steam account registered to the same email. I was thinking it could be some kind of anti-fraud detection triggering it, looking actually into I did gift him a few games right around when they initial locked my account for six months.

There's nobody else using my account and no purchases that I have not made. I agree the entire thing seems dodgy which I feel is due to Steam's poor communication ability. They won't tell me what's going on, same thing that happened last time they first said there was unauthorized access of my account then later said I was involved with hijacking another account so I was locked. There was never any Steam Guard's emails sent out or unusual activity on any on my email address which also uses 2FA. Not to mention none of that matters when Steam has gaping security holes that completely circumvent 2FA. Google Steam Accounts Hijacked Following Security Lapse (I can't link)

I would hold off an opinion before actually responding as the image itself doesn't provide any information on what HE DONE personally himself. If he put his account at risk by letting multiple people share his e-mail address and gave them his personal details it's actually his fault as much as Steam. He violated the Terms of Service he doesn't receive a god card just because he's a fucking customer.

It doesnt matter what hes done, how is asking for a cdkey from a game thats well over 12 years old any way close to being reasonable. I dont know about you but i sure as fuck dont have my original CS or HL cd key anywhere physical.

This is why you always keep your CD keys and manuals. :P Though I have to say I'm surprised the guy didn't just say that they were unable to retrieve their original boxed CD key and asked if they could use their first digital purchase as well as a couple of others as evidence of account ownership. That's what I did when my Steam account's password got hacked and support responded whilst I didn't have access to my original copy of Half-Life 2, by the time I got home they'd confirmed my account ownership and got me rolling on password recovery. Always had great service with them.

Steams FAQ on account recovery does say you can provide a credit card, and as he himself says - this happened to him previously and his credit card alone was enough to get his account back. The information presented in the original image does not really relay how complicated the issues with this account are and we only have one side of the story that is obviously bias.

I'm not defending steam support, I think it is awful, but if your account gets hacked usually showing a credit card is enough to get it unlocked.

tell that to a 10-11 year old kid that just got hl1 and cs. Back when cdkeys were a lol thing you could get from keygens.

He either used my phone or I left up my email when I was at her parents place which is entirely possible. It was not something I knew about and didn't even think was something that was possible. I agre it's fucked up but why let somebody violate your ToS having duplicate accounts only to ban them for it.

I never considered my Steam Support Account as an avenue that's a very good point! I did use a weaker tiered password since of course who would share personal information with a customer service rep. Hmmm
