It has to do with more utter laziness on the part of the devs. Guess they were too busy making another snooze inducing scenario to spend 5 minutes typing up something different.

I won't pretend to know how easy it is to set up a mass mail out to people.

That said, 10/12 months that this letter would have applied to would be covered under Cataclysm. Statistically speaking it'd be quite relevant.

Sure a custom letter tailored to this would have been nice, but we didn't get it. Oh well. They're doing other things (Like 5.1). They have bigger fish to fry. At the end of the day, week, month, year you'll remember nothing about it and it'll have no outlasting harm.

I would be more inclined to think they forgot the whole thing if the gift also said it was a 7 year gift. But it correctly says 8 year anniversary.

...that is the most retarded excuse anyone could come up with. HoTS, Path 5.1, or even Titan, Blizzard couldn't find 1 person to spend 30 seconds writing a thank you note to the people who have been supporting their game? Pathetic costumer care if you ask me.

I completely understand that they have other things to do but would it have been difficult to make the item increase leveling by 50% or 100%? As another said I was expecting to receive garbage and that is what I got so no harm done.

A mini pet? Ok save that for something big.
A tabard? Save it for something big as well, let the event be a bit smaller perhaps than the pet.

Also if the note is the exact same as last year there really isn't a valid excuse for them doing that, you are just kidding yourself if you think there is. Prefer someone who knows about coding to reply, not wikipedia heroes but is it that difficult to slightly change the message or would it require a lot of effort?

The funny thing about this whole anniversary thing is how people expect to receive something when THEY DIDNT EVEN DO ANYTHING. This is just like expecting to receive a gift at someone else's birthday party. Also, as others have said, it's a bit silly to get all upset about a paragraph of text that you'll forget in a day or two. I'm not saying Blizzard wasn't a bit lazy on this but when someone is lazy about something trivial, by association, that laziness is also trivial.

Once used, the item does not disappear. You can use it again and again until the 8th anniversary event is concluded in 2 weeks.

Why do you care about something that doesn't affect you in any way? Seems to me people are trying really hard to make a problem out of ... nothing.
I rather solve problems than create them, but oh well, people do this about everything in both games and in real life. Silly in my opinion. ^_^

This is at least the fifth year they've had an anniversary with a mass mail out, you'd think they'd have a fair idea of what they're doing by now.

As for them working on 5.1, do you think their marketing department is coding their patches? The community team? What about Mike Morhaime, Rob Pardo? Do you think these people are neck deep in code, or designing new models or testing game balance? There are people at Blizzard who's job it is to take care of things such as this, not everyone in Blizzard is working on the latest patch.

The funny thing is If there hadn't been anything in the mail I would never have noticed that it was WoW's anniversary but they did send last years mail which is like a giant: "We at Blizz don't give a fuck" sign shoved right in our faces.
