    Merging Threads

    In short: please don't.

It's a damn nuisance when two conversations/trains of thoughts get mixed together. It effectively ruins the thread(s) until people get back on track. Really, if it annoys you that much to have multiple threads on the same topic, just leave one open so people can migrate to the remaining thread. That way people can still follow what was being said without responses to previous posts being ripped apart as suddenly a few new posts appeared in between.

It is very confusing when two threads get going and then get merged. However, sometimes two threads on the same topic will get going and there will be good but different points made on each and it doesn't make sense to let both keep going. Also, just closing one doesn't make sense if both had good conversation going. Merging gets all those ideas together in one place without hindering the conversation. A bit discombobulating yea, but not impossible to figure out.

I would say Mods should always make a post stating they merged two threads when they do though, otherwise it is even more confusing than it has to be.
