WoW Down to 7.6 Million Subscribers
Blizzard had their Q1 2014 earnings call today, announcing that WoW is down to 7.6 million subscribers. This is down 200k from the Q4 2013 call that listed WoW at 7.8 million subscribers.
"OMG WOW IS DYING! TIME TO QUIT!" Nooope! Just Chuck Testa!
But seriously, this is the period in time where there's no activity going on in wow content-wise so it's to be expected. WoW playerbase fluctuates, due to new games coming out when there is a lack of WoW content. it's practically become a seasonal time period for MMOs now. And even then, WoW isn't even close to dying. All the subs it's gradually losing are the fluff subs from WoTLK during 2010-2011 which is quite evident. It was a huge spike and we haven't fallen too far away from it yet as the graph shows. Any claim that Wow is somehow dying for the umpteenth time is ridiculous. Not calling any shots atm, but people need to realize that subs wont just drop to 0, it's simply descending back to it's core playerbase. The fact it's starting to plateau in the 7 millions is already evident of that (7 mil is outstanding for a core playerbase btw, let alone a playerbase in general). No game can keep 12 million subs forever, the fact that WoW even hit that mark is quite a feat in MMO history, so dont frown that it's over, but smile that it happened.
I take these results with a grain of salt. It's simply due to a lull in new content. I expect it to rise when 6.0 goes live as raiders that had taken time off due to being in farm mode come back to test all the changes of skills & stats in SoO.
If the WoD beta drops soon, I'd expect those numbers to be even bigger.
The boost to 90. There's your PVE content.
I believe it acted in a way to prevent sub bleeding much like the Annual pass.
I bet most people who preordered WoD are playing right now with their new boosted class(es). Hence, they have an active sub.
Those marketing guys at Blizzard are smart.
7.6 Million subs ? Good for Blizz ! But where are they all hiding ? My server looks like the starting scene from the movie "I am ledgend" .
You can take a sh;; in the middle of the street during the day time ;-) and none would notice lol .
But still 7.6 is great , Q2 will be different story i think but i hope not .
People forget that 7.8 million isn't North America alone. Less than half aren't North American, which means there are 2.5 million or less left. It doesn't say WHERE the sub losses and gains are from. My guess it HAS to be from the US side. I see less and less people everyday. Right now, there are only 35 people on Timeless Isle during peak times.
Sure, I understand late expansion, Timeless Isle is weak, blah blah blah. Org'rilla during TBC was still packed during late expansion. Sure will will get an awesome pike from WoD and player count will rise, I just having a hard time believing everything is alright. The less people the harder it is for all of us.
Decent loss for the end of an expansion honestly. It's easily outweighed by the sheer popularity of Hearthstone (And Crendor buying so many damn card packs) and the release of RoS.

200k? I had expected 1 million...oh well, there's still time for them to lose even more by being so slow with an expansion that according to them wouldn't be taking as long as previous expansions.
Come on Blizzard, give us a miracle, show us that we won't have over a year of SoO!!
And to everyone trying to twist this into "Sure, 7.6 million but I bet they're all AFK!" or some shit...seriously? Get a grip, move on. WoW isn't going anywhere and as much as it may anger you, others DO enjoy the game. Tough luck, your opinions aren't shared by everyone else. QQ more.
/playing on 2 servers, both as packed now as ever.

Lmao, Crendor probably stands for 50% of HS cards sold. Can't say I don't envy his collection. <.<
