Patch 8.2 PTR - Benthic Gear Preview
Patch 8.2 introduces Benthic gear, which is catch up gear similar to the unsullied and relinquished gear from Argus. However, there is a little more to it than that.

  • Nazjatar introduces a new currency called Prismatic Manapearl, which is obtained through many different methods while questing and exploring the zone.
  • Benthic gear can be purchased from a vendor in your faction's Nazjatar hub for 5 Prismatic Manapearl each.
    • Alliance - Artisan Itanu
    • Horde - Finder Palta

  • Benthic gear starts at item level 385.
  • Benthic gear can also be obtained from world quests and the Nazjatar emissary.

  • List of Benthic Gear:
  • There are no weapons, rings, or trinkets via Benthic gear. However, these items can be obtained through Mechagon content.
  • Benthic gear can be upgraded all the way to item level 425 via Voidbinder Zorlan (H) or Voidbinder Sturzah (A):

    • These NPCS operate much like the gear upgrade Ethereal from Pandaria. Instead of Justice points, however, you use Prismatic Manapearl.
    • The first time you upgrade a piece of Benthic gear it costs 20 Prismatic Manapearl and upgrades the item by 15 item levels, changing it to a Pearled Benthic piece of gear.
    • All further upgrades to Pearled Benthic gear cost the following:
      • Non Azerite Armor Pearled Benthic gear upgrades by 5 item levels up to 425, and costs 10 Prismatic Manapearl each upgrade.
      • Azerite Armor Pearled Benthic gear upgrades by 15 and costs 15 Prismatic Manapearl per upgrade.
  • Benthic gear have predetermined stats, meaning there is no RNG to which stats you will get on each slot.
  • Benthic gear also have useful special abilities on certain slots:
    • Cloaks
      • Trader's Stock - You have access to Murloc traders' special stocks.
      • Fishy Fiends - You have a chance to loot a random fish from creatures in Nazjatar and The Eternal Palace.
      • Frost Resistance - Frost damage taken is reduced by 2% while in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.
      • Resurrect Health - Increases health gained when resurrected by 30% while in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.
    • Feet
    • Gloves
      • Shadow Resistance - Shadow damage taken is reduced by 2% while in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.
      • Elemental Instincts - You are more likely to find strange resources related to Mardivas.
      • Carnivore of the Deep - While in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace, your critical strikes have a chance to heal you for 0 over 10 sec.
    • Legs
      • Seabed Runner - Your Speed is increased by 95 while in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.
      • Swimmer's Legs - You are 5% larger while in Nazjatar and The Eternal Palace.
      • Hatred of Her Court - Heal for 0 after killing a Naga in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace.

      • Eel-ectrified Defenses - When taking damage in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace, you have a chance to deal 0 damage to the attacker and slow them for 15% for 5 sec.
      • Exploding Pufferfish - While in Nazjatar and the Eternal Palace, your spells and abilities have a chance to summon a pufferfish that explodes 3 sec later, dealing 0 damage to targets within 8 yards.

Raid Testing Schedule - May 9th - 10th

Thursday, May 9th
Abyssal Commander Sivara - Heroic Eternal Palace

Lady Ashvane - Heroic Eternal Palace
14:00 PDT (17:00 EDT, 23:00 CEST)

Friday, May 10th
Orgozoa - Heroic Eternal Palace
13:00 PDT (16:00 EDT, 22:00 CEST)

Radiance of Azshara - Heroic Eternal Palace
14:00 PDT (17:00 EDT, 23:00 CEST)

As always, this testing schedule is very fluid and subject to the realities of a test environment. We might have to change the time of a testing session, change the bosses being tested, or cancel a test entirely, due to bugs, server hardware issues, etc. Keep an eye on this forum for the latest information, and thank you in advance for testing and providing feedback.

Q: How do I get into the raid zone?
A: In Zuldazar, Boralus, Dalaran, Orgrimmar, or Stormwind, you may speak to Nexus-Lord Donjon Rade III in order to teleport into the raid zone while it is open for testing. (The option to teleport into a zone will not be available when the zone is not open for testing.)

Q: What character should I use to test the raid?
A: Whichever you prefer. We will be scaling players’ effective level to 120 for raid testing, and their item level to an appropriate threshold for the encounter(s) being tested.

Q: How long does testing last?
A: The primary purpose of testing is to give us the information we need to balance the encounters, evaluate how mechanics are playing out in practice, and identify bugs. Once we’re satisfied that we’ve received that information for a given boss, we’ll be shutting down testing. Usually this takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, but there are no guarantees.

Yeah no we won't the point of a MMOrpg is to be endless in content and doing old content forever and nothing new being added is not that at all.

as for me, I won't even touch classic and will continue to play BfA, and I'm sure I won't be the only one either.
I played classic when it was live, I don't feel the need to go back to the start, and ugly models/textures, thx but no thanks. I'll leave it to you nostalgic pink glasses guys

Some people have been saying the patch would come out end of may. I always thought that was crazy and way to soon, but with raid testing now, could it be a possibility ? also, 77 days from the last patch (12/13 march) is May 28/29th. And that happens to be on a tuesday/wednesday aswell

how likely you think this is ?

So is Benthic its own set or is it rng on appearance like Argus gear?

Well they seem to be more following a 90 day patch cycle this time. Each patch has been the closest tuesday to 90 days from the previous. (with launch to 8.1 being 4 months but that makes sense for a launch)

Game launched on 8/14, 8.1 was 12/11, 8.1.5 was march 12. If they continue following that pattern 8.2 will be ~June 11th and 8.2.5 in mid-september.

I'm seen some speculation on classic in mid july so that would actually work out best for blizzard to launch that between 8.2 and 8.2.5 anyway

I know it's just me, but the word "benthic" feels wrong in the context of a fantasy game. It's a modern scientific term. I know they're probably limited in words to describe "Unda Da Sea" gear, but it just feels too modern a word. But then it's a game with a selfie camera, set in a medieval world setting, so what do I know?

Whaaaah, Blizz sucks! They keep recicling old stuff! Why do I even pay for a game with no creativity? Thats why its hollow and shallow! WoW is dead!
Why are you saying Blizz sucks?

I've played since the US Beta came out, and all I'm saying is I'm starting to see a pattern of increativity. The last 2-3 expansions have re-used this system of "catching up" because of lack of content, basically. I don't only want a vendor to be able to catch up, what about a new dungeon or two. The Crucible of Storms doesn't count here, because it has only 2 bosses and very limited and obscure types of loot.

Or you just check wowhead what the, for example, pants will have and if they have the stats you want you buy em, though granted I do hope they say what stats they have so you dont have to check on some 3rd party website what each item has for stats.

Dude I know right and you can't forget the most egregious timegating, LEVELLING. They need to remove levels in all forms from the game, character levels and gear levels especially. I should be able to login on a new toon and be acceptable by any group to fight any boss. Also I can't believe they just brought back resistance gear with this new Benthic gear. Like do they not understand we the player base want instant dopamine rushes for no pay off? instead of paying to get nothing.

So why are they selling tokens then and not items ?

This is a genuine question. Why would they create tokens instead of flat items ?

Cause for now it looks like yes, that the stats will be determined on the item. Benthic leggings of the whale : crit/mastery. Benthic leggings of the harmonious : versa/haste. Yet when you get use the token you don’t know if you gonna get whale/peerless leggings. Like how it’s been up to now, actually.

But hey, if at least they have a reason to use tokens instead of items and that there is truly no RNG, it’s definitely an improvement from the system we have now.

Answering to myself: looks like they use containers to only have one items for every type of armor but they completely got rid of the RNG when “crafting” the item from the token, ie cloth gloves have crit/haste. Nice.

All benthic gear items are available here : https://www.wowhead.com/news=291566/...resting-equips

Was going to suggest this but kept myself from doing so because I wasn’t sure. Figured it had something to do with just determining item type for alts.

Actually yes there is right now so it's either because it's just been implemented or it's not predetermined.

I just logged onto the PTR (was able to without a sub for some reason) and bought some Benthic Legs. They did not have predetermined stats on the vendor or when it went in my bag before I opened it, they did not offer me an option to choose stats and it rolled crit/vers only when I identified it.

For now they actually are RNG still.

Did you buy another pair and roll it on the same toon to see if they rolled differently?

Pretty sure the stats are just determined by your role (class role, not rng roll).

They're doing this so that they can just have one type of item that drops and works for all players regardless of class. These will probably become account bound at some point, like other catch up gear tokens they have added in this past, and this will simplify that so you don't have to get the right armor type for your chosen alt.
