This will be the first Christmas without my fiancée, as I lost her to Coronavirus earlier this year, so I will be raiding with her guild, some of whom have religious beliefs that include not celebrating Christmas.

It already hurts a lot, going to hurt a lot more later.

Only the 1% will raid during the holidays, or will they finish the Mythic race by then?

Huh? It comes out after the weekly reset in the US. Even then for EU last expansion they just ignored the weekly reset so it didn't apply to them to prevent people from grinding in X hours just to get a lockout ahead.

The race will finish before Thanksgiving lol, this is just the annual "who wants to play during holidays" forum outrage, despite the fact that holidays are one of the most played times.

They were talking SL release, which for the US is before reset too, just a lot less time before reset.

You are right. My brain is still thinking 27th is release (since it is for everyone, but US) which is on a Tuesday while my brain is also thinking the 4pm PST / 7pm PST time and mixing the two dates together.

Not like anyone should really be going anywhere for thanksgiving this year :P (honestly, a lot don't even do anything for it normally, wonder how much rona will come out of black friday though)

Slightly off topic, but I doubt there will be much because of it. A lot of stores, at least in the US, are closing that day and aren't participating in it this year because of Covid-19

Walmart is open on friday lol, that's all ya need keep it going.

But regardless, holiday season 2020 is a great time for a wow expansion, many people stuck at home, a lot still without work.

They are still going with the seasons thing huh. Not a big fan of these catch up mechanics. I was hoping things would change a bit this expansion.

i have, and its not that bad. Only thing that still seems rather off is the lower level leveling stuff with chromie time and making a new char etc. Unless they fixed that in the latest beta build, haven't been on yet after the last build.

Seasons have been a thing for a long time though, even before they started referring to them as such, ever since catchup was put into the game.

Keep in mind that the Prepatch isn't simply "Here have some new skills" it will reset you to 50 and change your class completely from heads to bottom.

Do you mean the Mage Tower? Something I remember people complaining about nonstop. Also, it wasn’t really a challenge as people could outgear almost every encounter. The only time it was a challenge was when it first came out, and even then a lot of scenarios were extremely easy for some specs.
Maybe you mean Visions? I see a lot of complaints about those as well, as they can be done solo.
I would t say either of those are “most loved.” The Visions are still complained about now, while the Mage Tower seems to be fondly remembered because it gave exclusive transmog that people enjoyed not having to be part of a group.

This is cutting it AWFULLY close. Thanksgiving is on the 26th and the raid opens up on the 17th giving 9 days to clear 10 bosses

    BFA History World First--

    Uldir (8 Bosses) - 8 Days
Battle of Dazar (9 Bosses) - 8 Days
    Eternal Palace (8 Bosses) - 12 Days
    Ny'alotha (12 Bosses) - 10 Days

    Legion World First History--

    EN (7 Bosses) - 3 Days
    Nighthold (10 Bosses) - 12 Days
    TOS (9 Bosses) - 20 Days
    Antorus (11 Bosses) - 18 Days

    WOD WF History--
    Highmaul (7 Bosses) - 5 Days
    BRF (10 Bosses) - 10 Days
    HFC (13 Bosses) - 16 Days

    MOP WF History--
    MV (6 Bosses) - 3 Days
    HOF (6 Bosses) - 4 Days
    Terroace (4 Bosses) - 5 Days
    TOT (13 Bosses) - 14 Days
    SoO (14 Bosses) - 14 Days

As you can see, when we have a boss count less than 8, it takes a few days to clear the whole raid. Once you have 8 bosses or more, it takes ~1 day per boss.

Castle Nathria is opening with 10 bosses.

Depending on how difficult mythic is, this race might not be finished until sometime between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

It's more like the first raid of the expansion is always cleared relatively quickly, for multiple reasons, especially because there is very little gear disparity between guilds, world first or world 100.

The closest comparison we have is BFA which took 8 days for 8 bosses. We now have two more bosses. If one boss causes a problem and trips guilds up, they are going to be playing on or past Thanksgiving.

It took 2 extra day for Fetid and Zul to go down and another couple of days for Mythrax to go down and 3 more days for G'huun to drop.

If we have 2 extra bosses that cause a slight trip-up and extend it another day, the world first race ends ON Thanksgiving.

All of this can be avoided if we delay it two weeks and open Mythic raiding on the 1st or 2nd of November.

Why would they delay it just because Thanksgiving is coming up lol? In the grand scheme it doesn't matter at all, the nolifers will play regardless and those who want to take a break will take a break.
